Let me preface this thread by saying that I've done some searching on here and I get thrown over to PPQ threads.

I should be getting the Meps I ordered for my PPS today and would like to know if this is something that I can do for myself or should I take it to the 'smith?

Any links or helpful hints would be greatly appreciated!

EDIT: MODS...can you transfer this to the regular PPS Section? I mistakenly put it her on FAQ...sorry.

The Front sight is easy as pie, it screws in.

The rear sight is dovetailed it goes out from the left and in from the right.

I make sure the sight and dovetail are well lubed, put the slide in a vise with wood blocks to keep from marring and/or crushing the slide, and go to work.

I use a nylon drift that came with a set of XS big dot sights.

I have no idea how tight the Mepro sights will be in the Walther dovetail ... only way to find out is by doing it. I did put a set of Walther sights on my PPS slide and it was pretty tight. A "gunsmith" might have a sight pusher ... but that's never a guarantee that he won't scuff things up.

Here's another:

It appears as if quite a few folks on here have tackled the Meps by themselves. I am encouraged by this, HOWEVER....the last page of the last link I just posted has me a bit nervous.

A few posters mentioned something about having to file the front corners of the front sight. Are any of you familiar with this? The threads are old, just wondering if Meprolight fixed this problem or not....thanks!

hey smokin,
got my meps this year from opticsplanet and still had to file a radius on the bottom of the front sight to get it to seat properly. Also, the rear sights are way too tight as delivered. what i should have done is remove material from the bottom of the rear sight until a hand press would fit it(before seating the roll pin)into the dovetail.
remove, re-blue, seat the roll pin and drive home with a brass drift. and dont forget thread loc on front sight

Well, about 15 minutes worth of work in dad's awesome basement workshop resulted in my PPS now having new Meps on it.

Super easy job...thanks for all of your help!

What did you have to do to the front sight to get it to fit?

I have a set of Mepro's here, and the front sight is significantly longer than the factory front sight. It looks like I would need to Dremel the rear corners of the front sight's base to get it to fit flush in the recess of the slide.

However...

These sights should fit properly and should not require modification to install them in the gun that they were supposedly designed specifically for... don't you agree? Why are we spending $100+ for sights that don't fit properly.
