Owning a PK380 is a 50-50 proposition: Some of them work OK, and some of them don't. If you take a run through the various threads in this section of the forum, you'll discover that the issues you are facing are not at all unique to you or your situation or your pistol. Were it mine, I would contact S&W's customer service operation (WaltherAmerica) and detail the various problems that you are experiencing. The chances are good that they will want to service it on warranty.

I spoke to Customer support at Walther Smith & Wesson, and they are sending me a shipping label, to send it in for repair. I appreciate your suggestions Searcher, I'll let you know how it turns out!

Hi, Actually quite a story.

I did send my PK to S&W (safety recall) with a long note expressing my displeasure with it. About eight weeks later I got it back (definitely mine) with no note or description of what, if anything, had been done. I even called them to try to find out, to no avail.

So, I took the range. Lo and behold the gun worked flawlessly. From being unable to successfully empty a single magazine to perfect. I haven't had a jam, mis-feed or FTF since (> 500 rnds).

While still not the most accurate; the accuracy improved alot, easily good enough for cc.

The laser however was still a drifter. Ultimately, I used some loctite on the sighting screws, even though no loctite is intended for plastic, the results were impressive. After repeated use, 300 rounds or so since and I haven't had to readjust it yet.

Being shipped back. Other than the shipping notification, there was no other explanation of the work done. So I emailed the gun tech. He stated that the barrel and extractor were replaced. Test fire revealed 0.316 inch group at 21 feet at point of aim. Can't wait to try it. Hopefully this will be a happy ending like MJC's.

 

Ran 50 rounds each through both of my PK380s yesterday. No misfires and not a single ejection problem. The two tone one is still dead on even at 50 feet. The black one is dead on but still about 5-6 inches low. However, the further I went back I had to compensate less for it hitting low. Tried a few at 75 feet and hit the paper anyway!

Just had fun shooting them....damn fun guns to shoot!

 

Finally got it back. I still need to take it the the range. Has been raining. I still need to validate the fix - accuracy and ejection. Supposedly they replaced the barrel and extractor. They test fired it too. I did laser bore sight it and the sight alignment is improved, reminiscent of the Bersa. There may be a new problem introduced by the new barrel. I need your opinion on this. The strange thing is that the bullet does not feed when racked. The nose seems to jar against the "tongue" that guides it toward the breech. It seems to be worse on hallow points (DRT) that have rather sharp edges. It also occurs with the polymer tip (Hornady critical defense). When I use the Remington FMJ, the bullet glides into the breech. I have not shot it so I hope this FTF does not affect every bullet. Is this thing amenable to break in? Should I just take it to a gunsmith while under warranty? I will video the problem and send it to the service department if needed. Your thoughts?

 

Take it to the range and shoot it. See what happens and whether it's repaired properly and functioning in range conditions. That's the only test that matters at this point.

 

Tested it finally. Shot 50 rounds using Remington FMJ, Sellier and Belot FMJ, DRT JHP and Hornady Critical Defense. Not a single FTE or FTF. The accuracy remains an enigma.

 

I had a similar issue with the laser on ours. When I put it on the P22 I have it stays on target. From what I understand there is a laser for the PK380 and a different model for the P22. I have come to the realization that my laser was mis-labeled and didn't get the one for the PK380 like I expected. Maybe I'm wrong but that's what I was able to figure out with my similar problem with the laser.
