I inherited a p38 recently and Ive tried to Internet sleuth and research it but I'm in over my head. AC code looks sanded and refinished over. e359 stamps are in place on slide, barrel, and block. 5 digit serial number but the 1 looks out of place to me. has the Austrian BH and a IAC stamp. serial is on the right side of the frame which people say means commercial model but it also has e359 stamps. any help would be appreciated

Parts gun / post-war rebuild. Looks like a WWII-era slide with a later commercial frame and (maybe) barrel. Look on the front of the locking area under the barrel to see if there are any markings there, the wartime P-38 pistols will have the E/359 and barrel serial in that location.. I am not an expert on P38 pistols so someone else will have to chime in for particulars. IAC likely means the gun was imported by Interarms, which was headquartered in Alexandria, VA.

Looks like an arsenal Russian refinish. Except someone has polished every roll mark on the left of the slide. The Russians didn't typically do this. Their refinish was hardly more than a cleaning and a re-dip.

Not sure what's going on with the right side serial number on the frame. Possibly a French post war frame under an AC slide???

That's an unusual combination.
