How do you carry in athletic shorts?

I just picked up a new PPS yesterday and put 200 rounds though it last night, flawlessly I might add. It is amazingly accurate for the size.

Anyhow, I wear athletic shorts quite a bit in my free time and am looking for a good IWB holster that will stay in place without a belt. I want something with a strong clip, and I would imagine something that carries pretty deep as the athletic shorts dont have a lot of support in the band. I've already ordered an MTAC for my EDC, now looking for something in addition to...any suggestions would be appreciated!

The one option I've found so far is the Desantis Insider, anyone have any experience with it?

It probably depends a great deal on what you are carrying. It would be a lot easier to conceal a Walther TPH in a clip-on holster than it would, say, a fully oaded P99 -- or a Colt 1911. Are we talking about a PPS? Something less? I'd also think that the strength of the elastic band in the shorts would be as important as the type of holster you eventually select -- perhaps even moreso.

With nothing to hold the gun up, I don't think the holster matters.

I suppose you could hang the holster off of a piercing or use adhesive.
More seriously, you could beef up the waistband or go with an "instructor belt" style belt or a velcro-front belt

I am talking about the PPS.

My athletic shorts are mostly NBA/College Style so the wasteband are pretty significant in heft and there are also drawstrings. Supporting a deep carry IWB holster with a good strong clip wouldn't be problematic if I can find one, or if anyone else has any other options, I am definitely open to hearing them.

Something that rides high or doesnt have a good strong spring clip would slide around or topple over the wasteband I'm guessing.

I've tried IWB with a couple holsters while wearing gym shorts and they work just fine, but are a bit of a compromise. I used a galco neoprene one but sweat through it very easily, and a kydex one that was too rigid it felt like.

I've been looking at these, another "belly band" type: Pistol Wear - Holsters for Concealed Handguns

They are basically a neoprene wrap that hold the pistol. My biggest concern with any of these is that of sweat and corrosion on the pistol. How do you protect against it?

As with any EDC pistol, cleaning and using a good protectant atleast once a month is a good idea IMO. I use Weaponshield (Clean Lube Protect) on everything I own and I really like it.

I think I may order the desantis "the insider" as it's only $22 from optics planet. The leather will protect from sweat, and it's a pretty deep carry which I think is the sacrifice that must be made to carry in gym shorts to not have it topple over all the time. I'll try the MTAC too when it gets here, just don't think it will work.

I have 4 Mr Softy holsters from High Noon Holsters for various handguns. The PPS fits well in my g29 Mr Softy, as I like my holsters just a tad looser and I want the gun to ride a tad lower. It works for me as I don't do many cartwheels or generally find myself upside down where stiff retention would be paramount :)

Here's the kicker... Three out of the 4 have a VERY stiff clip, like "Wow thats stiff", the 4th is much "springier", not bad, but definitely different that the other three. I think you would be well served by a Mr Softy as long as you tied the drawstring on your gym shorts.

I tried to carry mine in similar type pants before, around the house. I will do it for only for a couple of minutes as there is nothing to secure the weapon. I know there is a drawstring that could be used to tighten it up but this in not secure enough for regular carry. I am currently using a Highnoon Public Secret for my PPS. The holster you listed does not look like it would retain the piston if turned upside down. Imagine falling down, bending over to pick up something or going to the bathroom. It would be more likely to fall out of the holster, if the holster stayed attached.

I will from time to time stick in in the shorts on a rare occasion, like moving it somewhere or something like that around the house but would not even consider going out in public that way.
