I took my 99c to the range yesterday. The gun fits my hand fine and I can shoot it decently. I find it a bit slick though; a situation that will get worse in the summer months.

Does anyone run grip tape, a rubber grip sleeve or Talon grips on their 99? What do you recommend?

I'd hate to take a soldering iron to the thing in scuff it up but I guess that's an option as well. I've seen people do that with Glocks with various levels of success.

Yep, I ran a trimmed down grip sleeve on mine. But I found what made the most difference in the way this gun feels and shoots was adding a +2 baseplate.....changed the whole dynamic of the pistol. I have to admit, I'm not a fan of short stubby, two fingered grips...consequently, I sold my P99C.....as I can carry a full size pistol just as easily.

Jimmo,

I did have a Pachmayr grip glove on my P99c but I didn't like it after using it a while. The glove started moving around too much for me. I took it off and adapted to the factory checkering. It works just fine for me as is. Same thing with my regular P99.

I think personal preference could get shaped PDQ if the wrong circumstances were experienced. Try profuse sweat (which has some fat content), heavy rain, mud, or blood entering the equation.

Now, the P99 has SUCH a good angle that some slickness doesn't 'bother' the shooter. However, in applying shots quickly, and follow up shots at speed, more grippiness IS a distinct advantage. Period. Hence, guns like the MP 2.0, Glock Gen 4 and RTF, etc.

I have skate tape on one, and some Talon like tape on the other two. It helps. I am considering stippling the front three squares on the front strap all the say down, and the backstrap. Not TOO noticeable, and you can always replace the backstrap.

I am using Talon on all my guns that I can. I love it. I take an extra piece of Talon & put on my racking grooves. I am now running one piece that ties both racking grooves together over the top. It holds up real well that way ,rather than 2 separate pieces. I make a pattern from masking tape & then put that on my Talon & it fits over the top perfect. I use the Talon precut for the gun

I have the Talon grip on my P99 and it's great. They've been on for about a year now. The rubber helps a lot when my hand sweats. If you plan to carry this gun, be aware that the rubber tape can hang up on clothing. I put a Talon grip on my LCP and now it's a bit harder to draw out of my back pocket.
