It is not a "V" it is the top half of an "X" the stamp applied by the Russains upon capture of the pistol. You pistol looks dipped too. This dip was also done by the Russains in order to preserve the pistol in storage. Is your P.38 import stamped too? Most of these were import stamped. You have a nice shooter P.38 there.
