I was baffled by this auction.
I get it that the Party Leader grips are probably genuine and the presentation box may be vintage, but the pistol itself is mismatched and the magazines are not period. But really this is a stunning auction results.

I kick myself for not visiting GB often enough and missed this one. The value is in the sum of the parts. I would have gone higher. Period presentation cases are non-existent. Most PPKs in this late range are mismatched as well as many are nickle finish. The frame is Dural so you see the bad finish condition. And the magazines are pre-1945.
Shill bidders, scam, garbage
Seriously? You think Legacy was a shill bidder. They knew the value of the parts.

I didn’t say they say they were all shill bidders, but hey what do I know. Personally, I think Tom is crazy I can I think of better things to spend $10,000 on.
I doubt Tom is that crazy. Especially if he knows he can turn around and sell it for a profit.

Issue is he pieces all the parts into other things, just like the Party Leader he had recently, granted he is open about it but who’s to say the next seller will be. Just adds to already muddled waters IMO. That seller will be lucky to collect from that winner. I bet Tom has a PPk just waiting to drop into that case
I have always said that if you buy a PL PPK, you are buying the commercial pistol and a set of grips. The only authentic/documented PL PPKs are those with accompanying PL service manual containing the gun serial number or one of the presentation Gau Franken shooting prizes that were awarded with PL grips. Or, one of those found on rarely seen inventory lists.

I know for a fact he’s already been paid.
Legacy collectibles went all the way……..they know their stuff..

Everybody likes something for whatever reason…….nostalgia, sentiment, …..this one not my cup of tea……but who am I…I just bought another P88 series still wondering why.

Are you sure that it's a Dural frame? How can you tell? I can't recognise a Dural frame.
Dieter told me that many in this range are dural and the finish looks different than the slide.
This is not a Dural frame - see the missing ring in the ejection port and the long tang. Dieter.
My misunderstanding! Sorry.

As Dieter explained in his correction of my erroneous observation, Dural frame PPKs exhibit two distinct characteristics that I have illustrated here with these two photos. As Dieter explained in his latest book, the barrels for Dural frames were first secured by a pin only. Later a collar was added to the rear of the barrel (at the chamber) to make sure that the barrel could not “creep” to the front. This collar was first in a narrow, later in a wider shape and can be seen at the rear of the ejection port of the bottom pistol in this photo of two late issue PPKs.

The other difference is the later PPs/PPKs had a longer rear grip tang, but the Dural frames kept the shorter tang, as shown in this second photo of the Dural on the bottom.

I stopped trying to figure out Gunbroker when folks started listing beat up Enfield No. 2 Mk. 1 service revolvers at $1600.
