Has the slide been refinished? I can barely make out the text on the left side of the slide.

Funny how many of these were captured from German officers. It seems most come from SS officers. :)

Are you questioning the OP'S story or just making fun of him post. Either way I think the comment was uncalled for. If you believe I'm wrong, please correct me. I'm sure you will.

Naaah, only the chromed ones came from the SS.

For the OP, the gun looks in remarkable shape, but the markings do look obscured.

The markings are there, but it's hard to say whether they have been degraded or whether it's just very unfortunate artificial lighting and low-resolution photos.

I see no other obvious indications of a refinish; holster wear on slide, frame, and trigger guard is consistent with a pistol that's only been actively carried five or six years and not at the front, which these generally weren't.

I don't think R. Nurmi is the officer who carried that holster, by the way. I'm fairly certain he was the artist who decorated that holster with the animal heads, for the GI who had picked up the gun with holster in whichever way that may have happened. Maybe Mr. Nurmi got some American cigarettes for the work :)

left side

Good morning everyone, Thankyou very much for the input on my pistol,I have attached another photo of the side so you can see the inscriptions. I think the holster is as interesting as the pistol since its in such nice shape. I am considering selling this and using the proceeds to buy 2 shotguns which I will be able to use. I would like to see the pistol gointo a collection rather than being kept in my safe. Don G

Aha. The stamping looks to be within normal parameters in that added photo. Seems to indeed have been the lighting.

Curiously, Nurmi is definitely a Finnish name. No US troops made it to Finland to my knowledge. Of course German troops were there during the war. But even though German officers bought their own kit, no member of the Wehrmacht, officer or otherwise, would have been likely to get away with carrying a service holster decorated as conspicuous as this.

I truly appreciate all of the input. I never realized there were so many markings and variations. Everyone also compliments me on the pistols condition. I had a local gunshop owner tell me it was a late war production and he offered me $700.00 for the pistol and holster. For that money I'll keep it. I think this would be a nice piece for someones collection what do you all think. Don G

At the moment it is unfortunately not possible to attach photos with a reasonable resolution to a post. On my request (we can call it a complaint) the admins confirmed that the fast loading of the photos would be more important than a reasonable resolution. According to them, quantity (speed) over quality is the concept that enhances user experience.

Grant', shops will offer you wholesale, if that, if they can get away with it. If it's been in the family, I wouldn't be in a hellfire hurry to part with it.
If you really want to be rid of it, try here first.

Future plans

I was hoping that this pistol would make it into a collection of someone who would appreciate it. I would like to sell it and have enough to buy two nice shotguns, one for hunting and one for home protection. Don G

That is a nice specimen. There are plenty of shotguns out there.

Be patient and save your money.
