Ok, so I'm thinking about getting this gun. It seems like the best Walther out there right now, and I've read so many great reviews on it, with not many complaints. I figured it's been out over a year now, so no recalls or weird stuff going on. Muzzle rise seems to be the biggest issue, but I'm hoping a Springco metal guide rod will help with that. I'm replacing my Sig P320 X-Carry, which has been great, no ND's whatsoever, very good, but the "trust" thing is hard since I appendix carry. It just sits in the safe now, so it's time to move it. I already have the Walther PPQ M2 SD in 45ACP and I love it! A little snappy with the hotter loads, but shoots really nice with 230gr ammo. My first pistol was a Walther PPK/s stainless in 380ACP, but I sold it and wish I never did. So, I'm not a newbie to Walther either. Ok folks, sell me on the Walther PDP Pro SD Compact, thanks!
Im 64, been shooting handguns seriously since I started as a cop in '82. Have had H&K, Glock, S&W, Sig, Springfield, CZ, at least three Walthers, and a few others Ive forgotten. My favorite was the PPQ sd in 9mm, which I still have as I think that was the best fitting and shooting handgun Ive ever had. I also have the PDP PRO SD in 9mm, and when I brought that, I did a hands on comparison with the Walther Match. For me, hands down the PDP was better. Less pop, better fit, the ergonomics was just like nothing Ive ever had before, even beating the HK & SSig. The only problem I discovered, and I mentioned this in a prior review here, was one brand of ammo consistently stove piped. In my review, I said it was S&B, which I was mistaken, it was actually Norma. I am aware Norma makes excellent rifle cartridges, so I expected the same from their handgun line. Since my PDP eats any other ammo without hiccups, I had deceided it was the ammo and not the gun. Whereas I came from the era of wheel guns, (my first police issue was a S&W wheel gun), I never had the opportunity or desire to try any special optics. I had always qualified expert with steel sights on any gun I had, except for Coast Guard boot camp. It was a cold, snowy, and windy day on the range in January with the 1911. Almost having frostbite, I managed to just miss expert by one or two points, which I later reshot and did my usual expert. So with this new PDP, and serious health issues, I figured I'd might benefit from a red dot. Got ahold of a Holosun 507C x2 and again qualify with the lical sheriffs dept expert. Of all of my handguns, this one will probably be buried with me as I havent felt as comfortable with any other my whole life. It feels like an extension of my hand, and the red dot is right there when it bring the gun up. No hunting around, its liked the ergonomics were made for using the red dot. If I could do it all over and buy any stock handgun out there, thus would be it. And with a tight, high riding leather holster, it cant be seen under a normal shirt. I cant think of any reason not to go with the PDP PRO SD in 9mm.
