Unthreaded Barrel for full-size PDP Pro Sd

536 Views 25 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  Shortbrownguy
Does anyone know if I can get an unthreaded barrel for the full-size PDP Pro SD? I love the gun but don't like that the thread protector loosens after a few rounds. If I don’t find another solution, I’d like to know this is available. Thanks.

Can't you just use some blue loktite?

I’d rather not. That gets complicated if I need to take the can on and off. I’ve also tried o-rings, but with marginal success.

Thanks. I totally agree. My problem is I have to decide whether to keep the gun in a few days. Jarvis is awesome, but they’re not quick in replying.

I really appreciate everyone who’s responded.

Loctite is the WAY WRONG way to go. Use Rocksett.

Thanks. I’d never heard of this product. I’ll check it out. I still want the extra barrel.

Do we know it’ll work on the Pro SD and not just the regular PDPs?

Buy a barrel for the slide length you have

is this your first firearm?

First Walther. I just don’t know if the PDP Pro SD has different internals that would make the regular PDP barrels not work. I want to make sure it’s not like buying a barrel of the right length but for a Sig. I agree it isn’t likely, but it doesn’t seem implausible that there’s just some little difference in there that would make the barrels different.

I really like the gun but for this one thing.

Anyhow, I appreciate all you who have bothered to try to help me. Thank you!

I am not understanding your reference to Sig but if you have a 4" PDP, you look for the barrel length for your PDP. If you have a 5" PDP, you get the purchase a barrel for the 5" and so forth.
Barrels made for other manufacturers (Sig, Glock, CZ, etc) aren't going to work in a Walther.

I dont know of any companies that make a pistol model that uses different barrels. A Glock 17 and 17 MOS use the same barrel. A Sig P320 uses the same barrel length for the 320 that have the same slide length.

No, I just meant to say that I am not certain that PDP barrels fit in the PDP Pro SD. The Sig thing was a stupid analogy; please disregard it. Does that seem like a silly question? Why is it implausible that Walther changed something in the Pro SD that renders the PDP barrels incompatible with the PDP Pro? I would be happy if someone could explain why this shouldn’t be a concern.

Thanks

It is not implausible, but extremely unlikely.

From a manufacturer's standpoint, I think that would be an inefficient business decision? Now you have to make a different part for the same model variant?
What other handguns have different variations of the same model that use completely different parts?

As far as why this shouldn't be a concern......cuz this scenario is not an issue with the PDP. All it is is a threaded barrel

All good points, except I’m not quite sure I understand the last sentence. Anyhow, thanks for taking the time. You’ve convinced me that it’s highly unlikely I won’t be able to find an unthreaded barrel.
Walther lists a barrel for too much on their website that isn’t threaded.
I agree. The Pro with a threaded barrel but comp trigger…what exactly was the point, idk

Simply that I have a PDP Pro SD and want to know that the regular PDP barrels work on my gun. That way, I know I can get an unthreaded one.
Just screw it off before range time. You'll remove it anyway so you can clean your pdp. Reinstall afterwards.

Hey sorry. I meant I have no idea why Walther made the Pro with a threaded barrel given the entire set up of it isn't really right for a can (no can sights, race trigger, funnel). It's actually really hard to imagine when a Pro owner would want the threaded part given there isn't a Walther comp.

Walther does have them on their website to buy, without threads. Yes. There is nothing special about the Pro internal. Any same length non threaded barrel will work. 100%

Would gasket seal work on something like this?

I know that once it dries, it is very easy to just peel off.

Something like this can be found in most auto parts stores:
