Underwood Xtreme Defender ammo

Wondering if the Underwood Xtreme Defender ammo 65 grain 1300 fps and some consider it as +P is too much for the PPK/S blowback. Will be getting a PPK/S as soon as they start showing up. Originally had an Interarms that I foolishly traded for a Smith & Wesson that was a disaster, failure to feed and eject, was at S &W twice and they never got it right.

Is the ammo safe in a blowback? 65 grains at 1300 feet per second sounds awfully hot to me. I would look for videos of PPK pistols firing the ammo before I volunteered as a product tester.

Assuming the ammo is safe, the next question is will it work properly. The PP series is finicky about ammo. This is especially true of the 380. For example, none of my 380 Walthers will work with Winchester white box - a flat nosed bullet. It nose dives into the feed ramp because it is too short. Others here have had no problems with this same load. If the gun is to be used for carry, it must be one hundred percent reliable with the chosen ammo. I generally fire 200 rounds of the chosen rounds through a pistol I am going to carry.

I wouldn’t use it. I’d stick with Fiochhi 95 gr FMJ which is flawless in the three PPK OR PPKS Pistols I’ve had, or maybe a conventional BJHP; maybe just Speer or Federal or Hornady. That Underwood stuff might work, but I think it is going to batter the crap outta the pistol. Certainly would go overload on the recoil spring like maybe a 24 lb from Wolff if I were to try it. But I’m not.

Steve, PPs have covered it; when you get your Walther, make sure it runs on garden variety stuff before even thinking about the Underwood.
Remind yourself that the strength of the .380 round is its ability to be chambered in small, concealable pistols. Nothing will make it a death ray.

That loading also has been adopted by the ME2 movement. They call it the Underpants Xtreme Defender.

Maybe it's good for that, I dunno.

Mike, your future in politics just went in the crapper, so to speak.
I am curious about the Underwood round, but I won't try it in the Walther. A guy on Glock talk (whom I respect as knowledgeable and a non-BSer) is pushing hot handloads thru' his G42.
