I need a magazine spring for a tph .22. Wolf springs does not catalog them. Numrich gun parts does not list a magazine spring for .22 but they do have them for the.25. Can anyone tell me if they will interchange. Thanks Dave

.25 will not work. There are often genuine .22 mags on eBay or gunbroker, but they can can get pricey, I paid $80 for the last one I got. Triple K mags are of questionable quality. One member here has had good luck with his, mine was a POS.

I apologize for misreading it. To your actual question, since the rim diameter of a .25ACP cartridge is .302" and the .22LR is .278", and since the springs normally come pretty close to "filling" the width of the magazine I'd say that the .024" likely difference in width is too much to accommodate in a .22 magazine without causing binding. The overall length difference of .09" (1"-.91") is probably not an issue. There would possibly also be issues with the spring's force rating since it seems likely the .25 cartridge weighs more than the .22, and that could affect the feeding of the .22LR cartridge.

Just guessin'.......

Why not do the obvious and order the spring so that you can examine it yourself to see if it would work?
Gonzo's suggestions are likely correct, but MFGs hate additional parts that don't interchange, so there is some chance that it will work.

I needed a new .22 spring and ordered a .25 mag to compare. They seemed pretty much if not exactly the same to me so I tried it. It works like a charm in my magazine and gun.

The parts lists I perused did not list a separate part number for the springs so I figured them to be the same spring and it appears I was correct.

There is a SS TPH for sell at Carbela's in Springfield, Oregon. You may not find it listed. The Carbela's Gun Library's do not list all of the guns on their web site. Any Carbela's stores can check the listing of all the stores. Or if you are interested you can just call the Springfield Store and they will send it to one of the Carbela's that is near you.

Then again, on the other paw...

This morning, I happened to run across examples of both mags. Remembering this thread, I compared them.

A .25 cal TPH mag spring does not fit properly in a .22 cal mag body. The spring is about .035 wider --just enough to cause interference.

However, as the dog said: If the poo fits, wear it.

Pretty easy to buy a bundle of .25's and use them for some of the parts if needed and if ever lucky enough to land a much wanted .25 one would have plenty of factory mags for it. Makes running the TPH a bit easier.

By the way; my Triple K's seem to work but they are not near as nice as the factory Walther mags.

Were it not for guns like the .380 LCP, I'd have been scrounging the world for a .25 TPH; while it's not light, it is quite flat, and the .25 should make it more reliable...tho', that said, the current TPH .22 goes bang all the damn time.
Wish the one I had 25 years ago could make that claim.

tph magazine update

I recieved my replacement spring this morning. Reassembled the magazine and test fired it. I only fired 12 rounds. I will go out after dinner and shoot a few more. The .25 spring works in my .22 magazine body. It only works one way but it works. Thanks for all the comments, that one reason I joined this forum, the knowledgeable members and their willingness to share. Fraternaly Dave

Okay, just snatched up the tidy wipes and removed nearly all the poo from my kisser.
Glad it worked out for you; wonder what the difference is between the mag spring Mike has and yours? Perhaps the lads at Ulm did indeed simplify things by standardizing on one spring for both calibers at a more recent date.
Mousegunner, glad it worked out for you.
Best,

Original magazine springs for the stainless Interarms TPH .22 are formed with rectangular coils about .219" wide. Original .25 springs are about .256" wide. The big difference in the two magazine bodies is that the front third of the .22 mag is stepped down to an inside width of about .231".

Those with advanced degrees in higher mathematics will appreciate that the front of .25 cal. spring coils don't have enough room to keep from sticking and snagging in a .22 cal. mag body.
