Pilotsteve... needs a hobby- which leads me to think that the drone is still in the tree.
Nein! Didst thou not see me grasping it triumphantly in the picture above, which may or may not be Photoshopped or an imposter that came in the mail? It lives I tell you! Look - I even put a headlight on it earlier tonight:

I'll bite ... I'll go with the firemen training exercise story!
Nice guess, Rev! Unfortunately, that one couldn't be the right choice because the drone was lodged in a tree within three nautical miles of an airport with a published instrument approach procedure, which in turn made it Class Delta controlled airspace. Since it's illegal to fly unreported aircraft in such areas, I decided not to let the firemen know about it. They tend to gossip with the cops, who share the same building.

I'm wondering if I even knew this thread existed.....afraid to look back through it and see I posted in it. If so.....I really must be losing it. M1911

Wish I'd seen the one about the drone stuck in the top of a tree. The exact thing happened here...too high for anyone to throw something up and hit it. I snagged it on about the 40th cast of a practice plug on the end of some 12 lb fishing line. Rod and casting reel. I was really surprised that most of the time I could shake the plug loose from the branches after a bad cast. M1911

Best excuse ever.

Last Friday I was approached by a veteran in my office who complained about the local shooting range. "There's all kinds of trash up there, and as soon as I clean it up some danged fools show up and leave their garbage all over the place!" He went on about how he was eighty-four years old and likes to go up to our all-too rare local shooting berm to keep his guns warm. "Unless someone does something, they're going to shut it down - then we won't have anywhere to shoot!" I explained how it wasn't my area of responsibility because it was managed by the Dep't of Public Services to include the cops, who go up there to train all the time (surely they aren't litterbugs...). Since I like to go up there every once in awhile myself, I sat him down, grabbed my phone, and looked into it.

First I called the police department to contact the Dir. of Public safety/Chief but he was unavailable. Next was the Administrative Officer but he was nowhere either. Finally the Mayor, who was concerned himself because he ALSO likes to go up there to shoot, and would be upset if someone from the State went up there and declared it unsafe. Seems as if nobody is directly assigned to periodically clean the place up, and the City can't put a dumpster on the property because people would fill it with their own trash the first night it was placed. Thus, schedule permitting, I took the initiative and volunteered to visit the range every Friday afternoon with a couple of trash bags, shovel and pinchy-claw to pick up any junk left about. He agreed, thought it was a GREAT idea, and it's a done deal!

Now I get to leave the office early every Friday afternoon, grab a bite to eat for lunch, then go to the City's little dugout in the woods and make sure there's no garbage - I can even take the City truck because my car won't make it up the rough, rutted and muddy road getting there. You can be certain a couple of Walthers will be coming too... nothing beats bustin' off rounds through a P5 on company time!

This reminds me of something that was uttered to me by a general in Haiti, where people could disappear without a trace, and no one dared to look.

I hope it is cooler where you guys are. Man it is hot here, humid too......but, an average June so far. I made 7 jars of blackberry jelly today. Sugar free, used Splenda and some double strength pectin. I meant to ask if anyone has a favorite artificial sugar. Anything better tasting than Splenda? I might make the next batch with no artificial sugar...just boil the blackberry juice down a bit more. If anyone is up to speed on making sugar free anything along these lines.....I'm all ears. :)

I had 6 cups of strained juice, put in a cup of fake sugar per cup and a package of pectin (made from apples I think). It firmed up nicely on the side of the pot.....now to see if it jellies in the jars. Regardless....I'll eat it.

Can't wait for the cucumbers and okra to arrive.....man, I'm going to make 50 big jars of pickled okra. I may be diabetic... last A1c was 6.2 ..but my blood pressure has always been good, so bring on the okra. M1911
