Greetings,

I have had my P-99 .40 for 4 or so years.  I vaguely remember an issue that caused the slide to lock open before the magazine was empty.  It seems like there was a spring issue, but I cannot remember.  It never was a bad issue with mine, but I do remember it locking open once or twice early on, but not since.  Now I am going to let a lady friend use it for CCW and I want to make sure.

The mags have orange followers.

It was born in 1999.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Happy New Year!!

I found this at the FAQ, and it sounds like what I remember from back when. But I need to make sure.

The original P99 slide stop lever spring is relatively short with an outward protruding curl at the rear. Premature slide lock in the .40 Auto P99s prompted Walther to change to the same slide stop lever spring that Smith & Wesson is using, which is longer, follows the contour of the slide stop lever, and has an inward protruding bend at its rear. Interestingly, with the latest .40 Auto magazine, Walther could go back to using the original spring. The 9mm P99s are still using the original slide stop lever spring. Below are photos of the two types of slide stop lever springs:
