I was thinking of getting a silencer for my 9mm P99. What sort of hassle(s) will I face if I actually go through with it?

I know I'll have to get a threaded barrel and purchase the actual silencer. What about paperwork, fees, etc? Are threaded barrels regulated, or just the silencer? Any other components I will need to add to or change on the pistol?

That all depends where you live and how well you know your local police chief. To start your quest, go over to www.subguns.com and see the info on Class 3 firearms.

The threaded barrels are in no way regulated (outside of California), the suppressor (not silencer - it's not silent, trust me
) is the part regulated by the NFA '34 laws.

Thanks for the info.

Is there a 'preferred' threaded barrel? Is Walther's superior to an aftermarket barrel?

you need to be certain the threads are the same as there are some different thread pitched barrells out there.
