Hey everybody,
I went to the range today and met a guy with an Interarms imported PPK/S .380. He let me shoot it, and in return I let him shoot my 9mm P99.

The PPK/S was easy to shoot and felt good in my hand. The recoil was much less than I had expected. I had heard from people that the recoil on a blowback pistol is severe - not true apparently. Shot placement was very easy with this weapon - the low recoil and small size made it easy to bring back on target.

The PPK/S was fun to shoot, but I think my P99 is a much more enjoyable weapon to take to the range. The low recoil and ease of shot placement takes some of the challenge out of it. I think the PPK's small size makes it a good carry weapon, but for the price and size, there are many more potent weapons available.

I was interested in getting a PPK/S in stainless, but after my experience at the range, I think I will hold off on it. My experience at the range was a good one but it was very beneficial in helping me decide not to get one soon. It is a great weapon in itself, but it is not what I'm looking for right now.

I am curious about the 'bite' that people talk about. After shooting a few rounds through it, I felt that the tail end of the weapon dug into my hand a little. It wasn't very painful, but it was noticeable. It didn't cut my hand or anything. Is this the feeling that people describe as the 'bite'?

No, the bite will draw blood.

My Uncle shot my PPK once and the slide sliced the webbing of his hand between the thumb and finger. It doesn't do this to me, but he has a lot more meat to his hands than I do.

P88,
Thanks for the info on the 'bite'. It is interesting to me that a lot of people experience this problem. I have small hands so I probably don't have to worry about it much.

But even then, it seems like you'd either need huge hands and/or an incorrect grip position on the pistol to get cut that way.

I just got this incredible idea...perhaps I can get my girlfriend a PPK/S stainless .380 when she turns 21. It'd be a good pistol for a beginner I think. Its very simple to operate and the recoil is not bad. She's got small hands too so it should be safe. And if she doesn't like it, well I'm sure there's somebody that would take it to the range now and then
