It seems that this forum is a hotspot on the interweb for discussing the Shield red dot optics. The information is scattered throughout the Q5 Cowitness thread so I thought we should start a new thread and keep the info in one spot. I don’t have a Shield, but am very interested in them as I shop for optics. I have questions.
1) what are the dimensions of these? As you know the Shield website has really cool pics of their gear in action, but little useful info.
2) has anyone asked them about a “package” with a sight and a Walther plate? They offer this for Glocks and it is a big savings.
3) where are you buying these?
4) these fit on the same plates/slide cuts that take the Docter and Leupold Delta Point Pro. Correct?
5) can you use the low profile Shield mounting plate with a Docter or Leupold sight, given you have the right length screws?
6) which other screws, and where exactly did you get them? Parts numbers would be great.
Thanks,
Jeff

Okay, I'll start. Contacted Shield in England via email and they responded right away. They do not sell their RMS and Walther plate in a package - you have to buy them seperately. If you buy from their website they reduce the price by 20% on checkout so that we do not pay VAT over here.
Here are all the places I can find to buy these.

So, there are more places to buy these than I thought. Seems like there are more than when I checked just over a month ago.
One thing to be aware of is that the current Shield RMS and RMSc are aluminum bodied products. They also produce a polymer bodied optic called the Shield Mini Sight (SMS) which has been around for well over 10 years. These are also sold in this company by JP Rifles as the JPoint MRD sight.

Hi Jeff,

the RMSc measures as follows (this might not be 100% correct because I measured it mounted on the slide, but should be very close):

40mm long, 23mm wide, 21mm high. The RMS is a bit wider, I guess about 1mm, but I did not measure it when I had it.

I bought the RMSc and the Walther plate from their website since I live in Europe.

Hope this helps.

Stryker,
Thanks for taking those measurements. Very helpful. If a moderator wishes to move this thread to Free Range or Gear please do so.

haven't tried it so undecided whether it was all worth it

it will still run around $450-500/shipped directly from UK or US will be more or about the same

side note: mention a Member on Walther Forums recommended you guys and they got 15-20% discount...they may offer you something and thats better than nothing....i got around that much of a discount

Local gunshop has the RMSw for a good price. Will it be a good fit on my match PPQ or will it over hang? Anyone have any pics of one on their PPQ?

One word of warning on the Shield sights, the coating that they put on the lenses is not resistant to the common solvent “Varsol”.

For years I’ve used a solvent bin to clean my guns, and I typically use the general purpose solvent called Varsol in it. I’ve never had a problem with my other RDS (Delta Point Pro, Acog, HoloSun) but the first time I cleaned the slide with the Shield installed on my Q5, the glass fogged up and it won’t clean up.

Unfortunately no response from Shield when I contacted them about it.

Additionally the hex wrench provided by them sheared off in one of the screws when I installed the mounting plate. Appeared to be a bad heat treating job.

I like the design of the sight, but just be aware of the solvent issue and a lack of vendor support.

If you have to get the mounting separate, look at the EGW site.
