S&W gave me the song and dance last summer about them becoming avilable in late 2003 and so far nothing.
I won't buy one because of the tang and the workmanship on the PPK/S's that I've seen in the past from the plant in Maine.
I had customers inquiring about them in the past.

Thanks for the response guys. I was actually waiting for the S&W version because of the 'tang', or 'beavertail' if I understand you correctly. I heard that the older ppk has a tendancy to bite, and I figured that the extended 'beavertail' would eliminate that.

Doesn't the PPK/E have an aluminum frame?
I have one of the S&W PPK/S's (bought it second hand) and so far it isn't too far in quality from the Interarms product. The edges are rather sharp on the S&W but I plan on sending mine out to Cylinder and Slide to have that (and other things) reworked. The extended tang is a definite asset to taming the biting slide. Those of you that have ever shot a TPH, you know what I mean. The engraving of S&W's mark on the slide is a bit rough. I really can't call it rollmarked, it's too rough. The trigger has a little too much creep in it for me, about 1/16th of an inch. I haven't shot it yet but there's enough I found on the gun to warrant sending it to C&S. But then again, having formerly shot IPSC in some minor maches around my town, I've gotten used to everything being "the ultimate".

Wait...I dont understand. S&W is releasing a version of the PPK/S? Like how the SW99 is their version of the P99?
If this is true, can anybody post a link to this S&W version?

No offense, but where have you been? S&W started making them when the took over the importation of Walther's and Walther decided to stop making the PP series pistols. That was a couple of years ago.

Lol, it was just a misunderstanding. I knew S&W had been making the PPK for quite a while. But this still has the Walther logo on it.
The question just threw me off because it was kind of old news, so I thought something new was happening. What I thought was going on was that S&W was going to make their own version of the PPK, similar to how they have their own version of the P99 (SW99).

S&W has released a version of the PPK/S. It is licensed under contract by Walther. It is essentially the same as was produced in Germany, but the tang, or beavertail has been added and it's made from stainless steel. Two things Walther has never done with the PP series. The PPK has yet to be produced or released by S&W.
I'm too much of a traditionalist to buy one of the S&W licensed models. I could barely bring myself to buy an Interarms PPK and PPK/S when they were still making them, but at least they looked closer to the real thing than the S&W product. And I hate to say it, but the machinework was a #### sight better too. I've examined several of the S&W products. Angles are off, corners are uneven, lines are not straight, and symetry is off looking at the front and the rear end of the pistol.
If I were Walther Germany I would be embarassed to have my name on this pistol.
Granted, the new beavertail is great for folks with large paws, but, there are other Walther models for larger-handed folks.
