It does seem slightly misaligned. But since the RZM PPK had the entire slide inscription adjusted to the left to make space for the RZM mark, and this gun’s slide appears to be legitimately so marked, this is most likely just a careless slip-up. It was a fairly routine stamping back then, after all. But maybe we have some specialists with more precise insight here.

I say no go. The S/N is lower then the seen range of RZM PPks First contract ( 8393xx to 84139x).
Germans didn’t make ”slips” especially with Party items, if I was the inspector, back it would go. The stamps looks cheap also. The seller does not have the experience IMO to write this up the way he did. My observations anyway.

Looks good to me. Steve, I believe you are off on your serial range by quite a bit. The original contract was for at least 20,000 PPKs and the serial numbers were in the 820xxx range. I have owned four RZM over the years and the lowest was 820924 with another at 823619. The highest was 841324, but that was an RSHA purchase. The sales hype he wrote can be paraphrased from several reference books published over the years and from online sales sites. Nothing new for the collector.

Here is a photo of the RZM on that 820924. It was a ratty gun I bought twenty-one years ago and have since sent it on.

thx! I of course yield to your superior knowledge. Where did you reference that contract do 20k? Research I have seen shows 1,300 with RZM First Contract PPk.

Obviously, RZM-stamped PPK‘s are high-value targets and would be tempting to forgers. But the problem is what that would look like, since this is not just a matter of adding the RZM stamp to an otherwise standard marked slide. Is anyone aware of an attempt to fake an RZM PPK?

I just looked on line at a bunch of RZM PPK pistols that Legacy has sold. On all of the ones I saw there, the RZM seal seems to be just a bit left of center over the magazine release. Just an observation.

Yes. Fake RZM with WaA. Apparently using laser technology.

Steve, the quote of my signature is a guiding principle. I try to learn more every day and do not know it all. The quantity figure comes from original correspondence between the Walther company and the Sauer company in 1934, when Walther offered Sauer the opportunity to share in the contract according to NSDAP economic guidelines.

Lighting sometimes plays tricks with the reflection of stamps. But look closely at the slide legend, not the RZM.

Oh, check your Rankin books for examples.
