Hello all,
I've been reading that all 9mm P99s are 100% manufactured in Germany (
) and that they come with the P99 slide marking rolled on, instead of laser engraved.

I've also heard from many owners how the rolled slide is better. Is this an aesthetic opinion, or is there something actually different about it as far as function/strength/weight/whatever of the slide goes?

-Thanks!

Roll marking was discontinued by Walther in late '99 or early '00 in favor of the laser engraving.

I prefer the roll marking myself.

So the roll marking is more permanet...

I am not too familiar with the laser engraving.  Is this burning a toner on/into the metal, or is the laser actually burning and etching away metal?

Sorry if this seems like a stupid question. The last time I held a P99 was a few months ago, and I didn't really check out the markings on it. I was more concerned with the general feel of the weapon. Now that I am getting very close to buying one, I'm starting to explore the smaller details.

It's not a stupid question. I'm unfamiliar with the process myself, but I really don't care how they do it. I still don't like it.

To me, it cheapens the product.
