Reported Interarms/Ranger Serial Numbers/Dates

As many of you know, we've had a number of posts asking for help with placing a manufacturing date on one of the Interarms/Ranger pistols. The posts are always frustrating because, unlike when requests come in for information on the Walther and Manurhin pistols, we can't be of much help.

To the best of our knowledge, Interarms never released a listing of serials numbers/dates that corresponded to the firm's production; as a result, the best that owners who want to place a date on their guns can do is to see if the test target that's sometimes included with the gun has a date marked on it.

In the interest of trying to help out with the date process for the Interarms pistols, let's use this Sticky as a place to post a serial number and the date on its test target; if the list grows, it would help provide a general idea about when a specific gun was made.

Here are two to kick off the list:

Interarms PPK/S Serial Number: 031790 Test Target Date: 1/28/83
Interarms PPK/S Serial Number: 035118 Test Target Date: 1/28/83

Please check your Interarms-made Walthers and chime in if you can help. Thanks in advance.

A couple of other notes here:

1. Dates also can sometimes be determined by having the original bill of sale. It's also important to keep in mind that the gun could have sat on the shelf for a year or three before being sold.

2. As MGMike has said previously: Extrapolation to arrive at annual figures is dangerous. It presumes steady production, which is seldom true.

Slowly...
It's a Manuhrin/Walther 9x17mm made gun. HH means, it was proofed in Ulm/Germany 1988.

I recently purchased an Interarms PPK stainless .380 with black case marked
Walther Banner
Exclusive Distributor
INTERARMS
Alexandria, Virginia

Came with two magazines, manuel, target, brown wrapping paper, cleaning rod.

Right side of slide marked Interarms over Alexandria, Virginia

Left side: Walther banner over Made in USA and the "Under License of Carl Walther, etc."

Serial Number right side AO59195. No serial # anywhere else.

No markings under grips.

Target has AO59195 fired by MS 12/15

I've tried to decipher the time frames for various makers and importers but am still confused.

Am I correct to assume 12/15 is the approximate manufacturing date?

I thought by that time, the PP series was moved to Fort Smith?

Please educate me.

Thank you.

Thank you for the prompt and helpful response. I did see pilotsteve's spreadsheet of Interarms serial number. AO59195 comes up late 1991 early 1992. Didn't think about the target date not including the year. I don't see a date inside the case. There's a bar code. I'll try downloading a reader on my phone.

Some cases don't have it, but look for an embossed date stamp somewhere on the inside. It would be stamped into the plastic material. If the test was done Dec 15th it was probably manufactured November-ish '91.

Here is where mine is stamped...

You nailed it! 11/91 stamped in a recess in the upper left hand corner of the lid.

Thank you again for your assistance.

Hello, all. I'm new to the forum, so allow me to offer up my blue, Interarms, PPK/S, serial #012177 info for the good of the order. There's no date on my target, but I bought it new in about 1982 and that seems to correspond with the info I've seen. Thanks to all for the data you've collected!

I guess I should post my info here and see if it fits anywhere in the Interarms Walther matrix. just purchased a Walther PP in .380. No box or paperwork, it says “Made in France”on the heal and “under license of” above the Carl Walther text on the left side of the slide. The serial number is 77454A on the frame and 77454 on the slide, and it has the “Interarms Alexandria, Virginia” text on the right side of the slide. The seller told me he thought it was circa 1986, not sure how he came up with that of it it is correct.

Unfortunately, this thread is for pistols make in the U.S. for InterArms. Yours is an imported pistol. You would do better with the thread Walther PP & PPK Date Charts (See Post#2)

I’m sorry Ratman, I didn’t understand the difference. Thank you for setting me straight. I will post this in the appropriate thread. Should I delete this post?

Please don't post into the FAQ section. Please create a new thread in the PP/PPK forum.

I'd move this for you but its not possible. Please create a new thread.

Thanks.

I'm going to close this FAQ area to further replies.

If someone has something that they feel should be in the FAQ, let me know and I'll open it up for you.
