Hi All:

I've been trying to find out if there is a Walther-recommended ammo grain or range of grains for the P99 .40 model but as-of-yet have found no information. *Is* there a range that falls into spec for the pistol or can I pretty much shoot anything through it? Any personal recommendations?

Personal recommendation:

For range use: Winchester 165 grain FMJ
For defense: Federal 165 grain Hydra Shok

I agree with venom600 on teh WIN 165 FMJ
also, I've ran through mine Speller & Bellot 180gr FMJ without problems.... flet like I was propping the 165gr... not real appreciable deference in recoil.

I like the 155 grain loads myself, both JHPs and ball. That's all I've shot in my P99.

The store I bought my pistol from only had 135 grain hydro shok. Still, I think in a shorter barrel 135 grain is more likely to expand due to the higher velocity. What do you guys think? I paid $15 for the 20 round pack of ammo, is that a fair price?

I've used everything in the range of 135 grains to 180 grains. My pistol really likes the 165 grain Hydro Shoks and for range use I reload using 170 grain LaserCasts.

I usually pay ~$15 for 50 rounds of Hydra Shok at Keislers.
