OK, as of this morning I'm the proud owner of a new AG P99 with AS trigger. I've read the manual, I understand the three trigger positions, but haven't shot it yet. The trigger stays in the rearward position after firing, but stays in the forward, cocked postion after just cycling the slide by hand, right? So, how does the gun know whether a round was fired or the slide was racked by hand? In other words, how does it know which position to leave the trigger in?

I don't have mine handy, but I'd imagine that the forward trigger release is activated by the slide lock mechanism.

If the slide goes back when the trigger is forward, the trigger stays forward. If the slide goes back when the trigger is held to the rear, it will reset in the rearward position. I don't know the exact mechanics, but it has to do with where the trigger is when the slide goes back.
