I have a Walther PP that I am trying to find the production date on. How can you tell the production date? Do they use letter codes like HK? Thanks.

Post war Walthers have last 2 of year.. or 2 lettercode like H&K
The switch from the last 2 of the year to 2 letters came in 1977

Now if you have a early PP you be best of to go to the P38forum.com Dieter Marschall in Germany has a data base, with which he can date them to about the month of production.........

ID would be 1983

The "J" is left out as it is looks almost identical to the "I" when used as a capital letter in German writing

Ok thanks.You'll probably be hearing from me again as I'm just starting to get into Walthers.I have quite a few expensive Colts and Smiths.so whenever I get into a type of gun I usually go crazy and buy sometimes beyond my means.I'll probably be dumping quite a few guns during the Wanamacher show in Tulsa at the end of March.Unfortunatly I'll probably have to let the first $5,000 go towards tax purposes,but I usually sell two to three times that much,so I'll probably be able to bring home,or trade for a couple Walthers.
