Well, after breaking in my new P99 (9mm) with 800 rounds of 124gr Speer Lawman the other day, I decided to try out a few different hollowpoints.  Everything I tested was 124gr, or close to it.  I tried Speer Gold Dot, Cor-Bon, Federal Hydra-Shok, Remington Golden Saber, and Winchester Silvertip.  About 60 rounds of each.  All fed reliably and consistently, but the Federal rounds performed best for me.  I was wondering what rounds you guys have tried in your P99s, as well as what you prefer.  For now, the I will be carrying Federal for defensive purposes.  Any idea what other brands I should try?

I found out as well that 124gr Federal Hydras were the best too.

Out of all the HP's I tried it like the Feds the best.

Re: Speer, The reclassified stuff works great as a cheaper way to find out how they will work for you, cycle, etc.
Then go & buy the New fresh stuff, at the regular price for carry/SD.

I read your post and thought you meant Schalldampfer.

Well as long as I'm here, anything sub-sonic should work fine.

Well, I went to the range today to do some amatuerish tests on more types of SD ammo, and man have my preferences changed! I was shooting through water-filled milk jugs lined up one behind the other. I then extracted the expanded bullets for examination. Out of 9 or 10 different JHPs, I was VERY impressed with Remington's Golden Saber. The ones I tested were 124 gr. +P. This will be my carry load until I find something better...not likely!
