Can anyone tell me why at the nose of the barrel/slide is there a round hole?

Thats where the bullet departs the fix, outbound.
Or, if you mean the hole on the bottom of the slide. That hole allows you to stick a nut driver thru the slide to access the screw on the bottom of the front sight.
