Update on how my gun is performing.

Last outing, 2nd in accuracy against the 1911s. It is a very fast gun and the lack of points down prove it! I need to improve my reloading times.

Taking "Secret Agent" to the 2015 Alabama IDPA States. Anyone else shooting this gun in SSP? I learn more about it every range visit.

The only thing I changed were the sights. Dawson .125w notch rear (all black) and ended up with the .150T x .125W front red F/O. I found the .180T recommended front height was still shooting too low for the way I operate. 25 yard shots are no longer a problem.

I hope others are finding this gun to be a real player in IDPA!

Take care,
Bob ;)

Nice! Is your front sight also a Dawson? I'm new to the PPQ and haven't done any competitive shooting but would like to try it out in the near future. I might start my setup by copying your sight setup if you don't mind!

The PPQ 5" has really turned a few heads in my local area. There are now 3 of them (mine included) in local IDPA matches. In my hunt for the ultimate sight picture, I ordered a .160Tx.125W and a .160Tx.100W Dawson red f/o front sight for my gun and I have the black rear .125 notch from Dawson also. I run only 124g ammo at 133-136 power factor.

I'm heading out to the range today to practice on the IDPA classifier, mainly stage 3. I'm routinely nearly cleaning stages 1-2 and working on my 45-60' skillset. I have shot my G34 and XDM 5.25 to the low end of SSP/SS and the PPQ sends me to the bottom end of EX and the last 3 training events into master. This gun absolutely rocks!!! There is a classifier next weekend and I want to be the best I can be for the upcoming IDPA Alabama States! No sandbagging allowed!!!

Updates coming........

Another beautiful day on the range in the Florida panhandle! 73F and no rain!!! :D

I took my time practicing the IDPA classifier today and really took my time getting out of the holster, obtaining the sight picture and then letting things go bang. Even though my times were deliberately slow, the accuracy was way above my normal time/-0 ratio. I like how fast the Dawson sights are to acquire. This gun never seems to amaze me. Walther, you have a fan for life.

Although my local Tier 1 matches are all practice for the upcoming Alabama States, chalk up another win in the SSP/SS division today! Folks really took notice of the 5" Walther and were quick to follow me to the safe area and ask questions.

More shooting; more updates to follow!

WxGuy, you said in the first post that you had:
"the .150T x .125W front red F/O. I found the .180T recommended front height was still shooting too low for the way I operate."

And then in a later post...

In my hunt for the ultimate sight picture, I ordered a .160Tx.125W and a .160Tx.100W Dawson red f/o front sight for my gun and I have the black rear .125 notch from Dawson also. I run only 124g ammo at 133-136 power factor.
Which front sight height did you end up liking best, the .150T or .160T? And which width, .125W or .100W (presumably still matched to your .125W notch all-black Dawson rear sight)?

I have found the .150T the best overall sight for me. The .160T was great at 60' but anything closer it shot a little low. I really prefer a 6 o'clock hold and like to see where the impact point is just over the top of the front sight. The farther out the target with the .150, the lower one must aim. As aggressive as I am with my left hand (weak side), I have a tendency to pull the gun down just a bit for this to work. My weak side index finger is wrapped around the front of the trigger guard making for a very secure grip. So my setup is the .150T x.125w mated with the .125w rear; all Dawson. Along with the DPM recoil assembly, makes for one accurate pistol on the clock. I'm very pleased with the results of my last match!!

Hope you find this information useful,
Bob

Here's what that Dawson sight setup helped me do this weekend at our local Tier 1 IDPA match:

Overall= 1st out of 40.
Most accurate
High SSP
Won 2 of 3 stages
Won the Division, SSP/SS
1st on all SS (sharpshooters)

Lots of dry firing, lots of practice, it all adds up! The Dawsons work!!!

It is time to leave and shoot in the 2015 Alabama IDPA State championship! :)

I had a great weekend local match and a real good practice yesterday. The range is fully utilized making no available warm-up area so I might jog down to the creek and run the gun a bit before loading into the RV. I'll post how the match went after I return! Go-PPQ-Go! ;)

The 2015 IDPA Alabama State Championship is in the books!

I ended up 13th in SSP/SS. Not bad for my first time out in the big matches. Lots of room for me to improve but that is what practice is all about! The PPQ ran flawlessly and was spot on when I did my part. The best part was the SOs asking what kind of gun it was! They went "WOW" when I told them. It was a long 12 stage day in the mud and I made a lot of new friends. Time to ready for the next match!

hey guys, not to thread jack just wanting some site advice from expert shooters i am looking to keep my picture at either num2 or num3 in this link
pistol-training.com » Blog Archive » Sight Picture

i am not a competition shooter, just a weekend warrior and plinker, that said most of my shots are probably 30 to 75ft. i am also interested in the dawson sites, just looking for a recommendation on the sizes to get to achieve that sight picture, right now the gun shoots with the num2 site picture, poi.

also on their website it lists all the rear heights as 210 and says you need a 180t front? is this just their suggestion

zackbremer:

The .210'' tall rear with a .180'' tall front SHOULD have the same impact as your stock sights since they are both the same height. You just have to determine how much air you want between the notch and post.

If you want to lower your impact go with the .195'' front sight as that is slightly taller than the stock front. I have both a .195'' and 180'' Dawson so you know.

Am thinking of getting the 5" PPQ M2 and was wondering if it is legal for IDPA in SSP? Specifically I am talking about this with regard to the ports on top of the gun? Does that kick you into ESP or is it legal with regard to rule(s) 8.2.1.4 SSP Excluded Modifications (Non-Inclusive list):

8.2.1.4.8 Compensated/ported firearms with non-compensated/ported barrels installed.
