PPQ M2 4 inch VS PPQ Q5 Match.

Is the trigger on the Q5 Match really That Much better?

Some articles say yes, but some say no difference other than it
being blue for some reason.

I'll never get to handle a Q5 locally.

My experience with handling a PPQ .45 was that it had a dreamy trigger pull.

The whole gun seemed to sit in my hand very well and the trigger was awesome for a striker-fired handgun.

I would hope that the even more expensive Q 5 Match would have an equal
or even better trigger?

My understanding is that the trigger mechanism is the same, but there can be some variation in feel between guns. I have a Q5 Match and feel the trigger is quite nice. However, my friend has a slightly older PPQ which also has more rounds through it and it has a slightly better feel to the trigger.

Both my PPQ Match and M2 5" have identical 5.6lb triggers. Both have 1/10th" resets. I understand the trigger pull weight will decrease with use. MIne have not yet but I suspect will as the rounds go down range.

The trigger weight can be reduced from 5.5 to 3.5, with a ten second trigger spring change. I did mine and it's great.

Where did you get the spring and how does it affect the reset?

I bought a box of SONTAX, 200 assorted springs at Menard's, for $8.00
I used the 13/64" x 13/16" spring (there are ten of them in the box) and bent and cut the ends, as needed, until it matched the original. It's thinner wire than the original, so it has less tension. So far, I have over 2000 rounds fired with this spring and thousands more working the trigger and it's still 100%. I have also installed them in some of my friends PPQ's and Q5's and all are working just fine.

The photo below shows them:
The top one is the original factory one.
The middle one is a spring, before I bent the ends and cut one end.
The bottom one is the finished product.

After much experimentation between Lanzer and myself, we came up with a reduced power replacement TRS and FPB spring package. Following that Alan at Sprinco is offering a Walther PPQ "TSK Competition Trigger Kit" Designed with Daniel Thompson of Team Walther, Installation of the 2 springs renders a 3.5# Competition ONLY trigger pull. Includes replacement trigger return spring and firing pin safety spring. Moly Plated and Cryogenic Processed for long service life.

I've tested Alan's spring kit and can highly recommend it. Pricing is certainly reasonable. Don't believe you'll find the kit listed on his site yet....you'll need to call him.

I have both an M2 5 inch and a Q5 Match. I can tell you the M2 5 inch is a stock trigger that has been used and polished (Oldfart and I both arrived at the same polishing idea...) - and that trigger is awesome. The Q5 has an Apex trigger and both of Oldfarts spring replacements and it is awesome, too!

So I guess what I am saying is - all PPQ-variation triggers are awesome.
I have a Q5 and two regular 4" PPQs. There is no difference between the Q5 trigger and the triggers in the other two except for the blue color on the Q5.

When the Q5 first came out I had read a test review that said the Q5 was a special target trigger but I have not found that to be true.

All three of mine as well as the few other Qs I have handled have most excellent triggers.
Unfortunately Sprinco does not sell retail. I will be ordering through Brownells a trigger kit for my two PPQ's

Bob, I buy from Alan.....maybe he doesn't ship to Canada. The Apex kit will provide for less pretravel....it won't reduce the poundage for takeup or break, because they retain the stock factory springs. If you wanted to run the lighter competition spring package offer by Sprinco, I'm sure you could find someone that might be willing to help you out. :D

I have to agree with this. I have a well-used (over 6,000 rounds) PPQ Classic (4") and was recently in the market for “some kind of Q” on which I could mount a red-dot. My first preference was the Q5 Match Champion, which has the same trigger as the Q5 Match except for an adjustable sear engagement.

A local dealer, who is also a gunsmith with decades of experience, was able to procure one for me to dry-test in his shop. I was able to do a side-by-side comparison with my own PPQ (sear adjustment of the Q5 at default) before handing the pistols over to the gunsmith for his opinion. Both of us agreed that the Q5 Match Champion was just a smidgen “drier”, but that the difference was barely noticeable. A competition shooter might think otherwise and, obviously, I was comparing a well-used trigger mechanism with a brand-new one which had never been used.

I ordered the Q4 instead.

The triggers are the same in all the PPQ models no secret there. The blue colour on the Match trigger is the only difference. All have 5.6lb pulls as per the catalog listing. My two are bang on 5.6lbs. - M2 Match and the PPQ 5". Likely why they both felt the same. ;)

Bob
Same Trigger

I have a Q5 Match with over 6000 rounds fired and over time my trigger went steadily down in poundage to about 4.3-4.5 where it has seemed to stabalize and I rather like it there.....not too heavy and not too light....at least for me. I had a standard 5 inch PPQ M2 which exhibited the exact same behavior over time before I sold it to buy the Q5.

Thumbs up for the Q5 Match. (I have a Trijicon RMR mounted on mine.) Most accurate, comfortable, and soft shooting striker fired 9mm I have owned/shot. And I have tried a lot...H&K’s, Smith and Wesson’s, Sigs, Berreta’s, Glocks, Springfields....you name it.

And for ”old eyes” like mine....Once you wean yourself off iron sights and get used to Reflex Red Dots....trust me...you will never go back!

Pistol choice is like buying a car...what works for me may not work for others but again...highly recommend the Q5 Match. Your milage may vary.
