I have recently acquired a Walther PPK in 9mm kurz, serial number 103227A. The barrel chamber has an Eagle/N proof mark but it does not have an Ulm antler proof mark or numeric date. In searching images online, I found a PPK from 1961, S/N 102789A and one from 1963, S/N 104200A, which leads me to believe that mine was manufactured in 61, 62 or 63, assuming that serial numbers reflect order of manufacture. Is there anyone here that could help me narrow that down to the year mine was manufactured?
Thanks.

I understand from several of Martin’s posts and Dieter Marschall’s book that the year code proof began in 1961. That suggests that my PPK was likely manufactured in 1960. However, this PPK (Walther PPK Semi-Automatic Pistol) has a 61 year code and a serial number that is 438 less than mine.

Does anyone know if serial numbers reflect the order in which the pistols were manufactured? Could mine have been manufactured in 1960 and have a serial number greater than one manufactured in 1961?
