I recently picked up a nice Model PP at a local gun show. It has two x'd out stamps on the left side frame under the slide. One is LP and the other is By. Does anyone have any info on these marks?
Thanks
Rich

According to Dieter Marschall's book, the By is an abbreviation for the state of Bavaria(Bayerische in German).  The LP must be the abbreviation for the city, but I wouldn't know which one.  IMHO I think it indicates this may be a police trade in.

Wait, I just found it. LP is the abbreviation for Landpolizei, or state police in German. So your PP used to belong to the Bavaria State Police.

Its a good book to have, very concise and a ton of markings and symbol definitions. I had to order it from the publisher, I forgot which one. If you go to the p38forum.com and ask someone will tell you where you can get one. The Title is Walther Pistols Models 1 through P99.
