PP Magazine came apart

1305 Views 14 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Redcat94
The finger rest came off the magazine and the spring flew out. I found the spring and finger rest but I don,t know what retainers it from sliding off again.
Does anyone have a picture of the bottom of the magazine so I know if I am missing a part?
Thanks

It's a little piece of stamped steel with a dimple on it.

Thank you I will look for it.
Which leaves the question, 'why did it fly off'?
Is the plastic finger rest itself damaged?
How long have you had the magazine, and have you had it apart?
Great pics, Redcat.

I just got the gun so I don't know if it ever was apart. I touched the bottom of the magazine and everything flew out. I don't think the finger rest is damaged as it I can slide it back in place and it holds. If I can't find the small retainer piece are they available?

Okay, it sounds like somebody else had it apart.
Try Numrich or Brownells for the part, and post about it here as well. Many members have extensive 'junk boxes'.

Gunpartscorp has a reproduction that should work for $5.25.

Whoever took it apart before you got it didn't make sure the nub on the retainer indexed correctly in the hole on the exterior base. You should hear and feel a "click" upon assembly. Then push & pull on the base to make sure it's holding. Very easy to miss.
Also, the part of the plastic base that slides over the mags bottom is metal that is molded into the plastic. Even if the plastic gets damaged, it is still usable. Basically, it's a flat bottom base with plastic molded around it.
If this was out in the yard you can purchase a magnetic roller from Home Depot, etc. This tool is used by roofers to roll around a yard after a roofing job to pick up all stray nails. They work well too and don't cost much. 1917

I hate taking guns apart out in the yard.
The neighbors are a little skeptical already; why make it worse?

MecGar makes very good magazines for the Walther PP .32

You are assuming it was there in the first place. The previous owner could easily have lost it and simply pushed the floorplate back on without the retainer.

In which case there is no point in mucking around in the grass.

Thanks guys. We had some family problems so I didn't get a chance to read the latest reply's until today. I appreciate the pictures and schematic but I don't quite see how the retainer fits in the finger rest as the bottom is not flat

the magazine spring retainer plate fits between the mag spring and the mag base. it is flat and has a raised "button" that indexes in the hole in the mag base, thus locking the mag base in place.
Geatano, who made your magazine ? I was going to take some pictures for you when I discovered that my Walther and Mec-Gar magazines are not built the same.
