Thanks. Good info. What height did you go with on the Dawson front sight? I am also considering the stainless guide rod. I will be using 115gr or 124gr factory loads. It's for home defense and punching holes in paper at this time.
The Dawson sight is .200h x .160w for Glock 17L/G24 pistols. Many of the sights online were unavailable. So, I called them and this was the closest on hand to the Walther factory sight. It’s a little taller than the factory sight; but, was easy to zero with the adjustable rear.Thanks. Good info. What height did you go with on the Dawson front sight? I’ll be shooting next week in Production division. In IDPA, I’ve been shooting it in CCP and I’ll probably also shoot SSP.@johntheelder What division in USPSA? Good info. I have an extra green spring which I may try for carry.
Cool. Good luck. Keep us posted on how the F holds up long term please.I’ll be shooting next week in Production division. In IDPA, I’ve been shooting it in CCP and I’ll probably also shoot SSP.
this is what I ordered for my F series.Thanks. Good info. What height did you go with on the Dawson front sight? I am also considering the stainless guide rod. I will be using 115gr or 124gr factory loads. It's for home defense and punching holes in paper at this time.
Hello Jerry. Your decision is your decision but I'm currious what is it about the gun that makes you want to return it?I ordered the 4" soft captured Feb 11th & still waiting. I'll end up selling it when it arrives because I opted for the 30 day money back guarantee.😕
Gotcha. Ok. Thanks for responding. The two main things I didn't like about it were the frame to slide wiggle and the recoil. I ran different weight & brands of ammo through it with no noticeable improvement, so that's where the DPM soft capture entered the picture. I tried to address the wiggle thing by ordering a new locking block since the slide tabs on the one that came with it measured .004 narrower than the rear. The one they sent me was for the std. PDP which has no slide tabs. By this time the 30 day deadline was close so I decided to return it. Just a note, I also thought by setting it up with my red dot would tame some of the snappiness, but the optic plate is still a no show.
Thanks for your update. This info may help me alot. Appreciate your candor! Thanks to this forum, I have completed minor mods to my PDP F-Series 4” which I’m using for IDPA, and soon, USPSA matches. Here’s a rundown:
1. Sights - Didn’t care for the factory sights, so I replaced the front sight with a Dawson fiber optic. It’s easier to acquire even with the poor lighting at my indoor range. I kept the adjustable factory rear sight which made it easy to zero. I may black out the rear white dots as I find them a little distracting.
2. Trigger - I replaced the trigger return spring with an Overwatch red spring. The pull went from 6.1 to 4.1 lbs. There is still a slight amount of creep before break, but overall, it’s a very good trigger that I expect to get better with use.
3. Guide rod - Installed the ZR Tactical Solutions stainless guide rod with 13lb spring. Spent brass is dropping about 5 feet away versus maybe 6 feet with factory spring. This is with my standard reloads (see #4)
4. Chronograph- My standard load of 147gr coated flat point bullets, 3.0 gr Alliant Sport Pistol powder, 1.10-1.15 OAL, yielded 125.6 power factor (PF). This is plenty for IDPA CCP division which only requires 105 PF. Increasing the powder to 3.2 gr yielded 128.9 PF which will work for other IDPA & USPSA divisions requiring 125 PF.
5. Holster - I got a Red Hill Tactical holster. The folks at Red Hill only had PDP holsters listed on their website. They didn’t know if it would fit the F-Series. Their PDP holster fits perfectly.
6. Grip - I like an aggressive grip texture, so, I’m thinking about putting on Talon Grips. I’ve got their sandpaper granulate grips on a couple of other pistols. But, they only offer it in a rubber material for PDP “because it is much more pliable and will adhere better to the aggressive texture of the PDP”, per Mo at Talon Grips.
Overall, I’m quite happy with this pistol. It fits my small, girly hands better than any of my other pistols. Thank you to all you forum participants for your expertise.
