I saw this on eBay and called Walther America about it. The guys I talked to knew nothing about it, but also speculated it was for trade shows and not anything for sale. I was not at SHOT, so I can't say, but I assume that is where the seller picked them up from... along with 2006 catalogs he is selling.

Since I can't seem to score one from Walther, I bought one from this guy today. At least I was able to request a FREE 2006 catalog from Walther America.

If anybody has info on this DVD or anything like it (perhaps a non-exhibition edition) please let me know.

I'm definately interested. Let me know if it's worth it. Since it is so short, maybe you'd be willing to part with it to help out a fellow Walther addict. For the right price of course.

Hey mambro

"Walther P99 Special Operations NTSC DVD (will not work on PAL systems) new - in the wrap."

Ummmmm well if it doesn't work let me know,,, due to me being German I had purchased a code free DVD palyer a long time ago that plays PAL and NTSC so the kids could watch german DVD their grandma sends them.

Anyhow my point was
I would take it if it doesn't work for you

Gents,
NTSC should work just fine for me, and I'm sure something can be worked out for other WF members that want to see it. I'll post more after it shows up.

I ordered it last week and it arrived a few days later.

Overall, I thought it was worth the small fee if you're really into the P99 and/or Walther in general.

Three main items on the DVD:

1. An interesting action video that is a bit cheesy at times but also cool at other times. If you view it, you'll see what I mean. About 10-15 minutes long.

2. A nicely done video narrated history of Walther, with most of the pictures coming from Kersten's book, and a lot of info on the sporting weapons side of the house. Also about 10-15 minutes long.

3. A 50-some page powerpoint presentation accessible on your PC or MAC along with a bunch of video/moving graphic files located throughout it. Has a few typos and some formatting errors, but it's locked so you can only open it in read-only fashion.

I liked it and am glad I got one.

If anyone is interested, I could zip up the PowerPoint presentation for PC format and post it on my company's website to download. It is about 55 MB long, so only high-speed access users need apply.

Let me know, and if there's interest, I'll post it.

Regards,
Jeff

jgilbertson is on the money. The agent "Lizard" 15-minute video is a little hokey at times (and it is dubbed over in English), but there are some interesting snippets (underwater, mud, ice, sand tests). Part of the opening has "Lizard" floating in the air (zero G simulator via airplane) with a prototype of a "Compact Pistol PPS" that will be introduced at SHOT 2007. (Very square/Glock/XD like). Nice teaser.

The presos are PowerPoint, and the Windows version is locked... not so with the Mac version... which you can open in Windows, BTW.

I have sent an email to Walther in Germany for more info on this disc and if there is any difference between this "exhibition edition" and any other that is out there. There is a different seller on eBay with whatever edition comes in a plastic box. Contents appear to be the same, just slightly better packaging perhaps. Anyways, there is a Walther part number on the back of this one ("Item-No. 270 81 16"), and with any luck Walther will get back to me to say they are freebies for the asking. Here's hoping.

Under water shooting (navy test), powder sand, mud, 2 frozen-in-ice tests, drop tests... no problems. Agent "Lizard" goes two-fisted & rapid fire; one with the mud P99 and the other the sand P99... slow motion video too... All good.

We would expect nothing less for an "exhibition" DVD that shows off the product, right?

allright
I got to watch mine tonight........
I find it most interesting in what cheesy package they present the "real tests" they put the Pistols through
Drop test, sand test, mud test, and the ice test are all part of real testing the guns..... I have seen numerous H&K videos on the net that display those kind of tests....
I think it would had been much more interesting to see our 007 do the action in that clip

I loved the short history package of the Walther.....
over all a good teaser for non Walther fans... and kinda like "gun porn" for the Walther freaks of us......
I have not gotten to the PC part yet... but I will tomorrow

Thanks Mambro.....

Well, I don't have any of the video files available, but I did upload the PowerPoint presentation to a private part of my web site. You can find it here:

http://www.gilbertsongroup.com/gilbertsongroup/temporary.htm

It's in WinZip format, so after downloading it, simply unzip it. If you have MS PowerPoint installed on your PC, you can open up the .ppt file. If not, you'll have to first install (or maybe just run?) the PowerPoint Viewer, then open up the .pps file.

Jeff

Finally got a reply back from Walther in Germany this morning about this DVD (from Feb 28 inquiry) vs. any other "non-exhibition" version. The response was simply "There is no difference aside from the packing."

So, there we have it. There is still somebody on eBay that is listing the version in the "non-exhibition edition" plastic case.

I still have not received my "free" 2006 catalog via the Walther America website as requested nearly a month ago so I caved and bought one of those off eBay too.

I had asked Walther in Germany (via that same email regarding the DVD) about posting the 2006 catalog in PDF on their website (and the Walther America website) but got no response on that topic... or about the "AS" info being put on the websites either.

Marketing is not one of Walther's strong points it seems.

Not even the "German" Walther page has a 2006 PDF listed ....
let alone the Waltheramerica page then

I still get pissed whe I see that "Dessert Sand" QA with the 9mm slide on it..... damn photo-shop
and the old style trigger guard on the regular P99 ....

But just on a side note... H&K isn't that much better... they had a measurement on their website for the P2000SK that made me wonder for months (2.48 inch barrel)..... they just recently fixed that ... as it was wrong....(well not wrong .. they just didn't include the chamber in the measurement like on all the other guns or like other companies do)

I also tried to get some info on that Proto type seen in the very beginning of the Clip........ got to wait for SHOT show I guess as they say nothing more apparently than.... "it is going to be a backup gun"

Hal8000,
I just checked... Server is there when I click the address, but whatever file (or files) were there are gone. The page reads "Nothing here anymore. Sorry about that!"
