I have two all German 40 S&W P99's that the serial number starts out with a 40. Do the 9mm's start with a 9 in the serial number? Just curious.

Nope, I believe the 9mm S/Ns started with 1001. I had S/N 1237, and currently have 5000, 13000, 33000, 46000, 50000 and 51000 range guns. My .40 that I have does start with "40".

Then there were the commemorative models with S/N prefixes of:

2000-xxxx = Year 2000
007-xxx = JB Series I
007-xxxJB9/xxxJB40 = JB Series II
020xxx = La Chasse

Regards,
James

I just now got back over here to look at my post. Thanks for the info. I wonder why they started the 40's out with a 40 but didn't do the same idea with the 9's ?
