All I can say is...Wow! I took my new P99 to the range this morning and put about 250 rounds through it. I was using WWB from Wally World. Not a single hiccup! My 14-yr old son and my neighbor also shot it and were very impressed.

I can't say that I'm a very big fan of the standard sights. I thought they were a little difficult to acquire -- particularly in the dim light at our local indoor range. But I can't really argue with the results! I posted some pics of my targets on my website, here: http://users.adelphia.net/~jimdick/targets.html

I found the fit of the gun in my hand to be VERY comfortable. Interestingly, both my son and my neighbor complained that they had a sore spot on their finger from the trigger. We'll have to investigate more and see how they fire compared to me. I didn't notice it at all.

The AS trigger system was fine with me. The DA isn't nearly as tough as my Ruger and to be honest, I didn't notice the difference between the first SA shot and the next...the extra bit of travel that makes it "AS" didn't register. I found the mag release and the decocker were simple enough to manipulate with just a slight change in grip...something I'm used to with my Sig and Ruger anyway.

All in all, I couldn't be happier with my choice. My son is pretty pleased, too! I can't wait to get back out on the range and get used to her some more!

hey, they look almost like my first targets out of my P99 AS. they are sweet guns. i don't think i'll ever part with mine. i do like the stock sights. for me the are the most accurate. i tried a set of meps and for some reason i couldn't shoot as well. i put the factory sights back on and could put 'em all in one hole. i'm stickin' with original. sorry i gotta go, die another day just started, i can't miss Bond and his P99 AS.

Fantastic! That little click/hump on the first SA trigger is very slight. I only really notice it when I'm dry firing...

If I were to put night sights on mine, I think I'd go ahead and spend the extra bucks and buy the second generation ones from Earl's. They're tapered like the originals...

Nice targets! You can be my wingman anytime!

I did notice the "setting" of the trigger this afternoon when I was dry firing. I also noticed that the decocker sounds much louder when you decock from that AS position. Hmm....

Where on Earl's did you find the info on the sights? I looked to no avail (a very overpriced and poorly designed web site, IMHO.) Edited: Never mind...I found it. Given the rest of the prices on Earl's, I'm hard pressed to believe they're really worth $125, compared to something like Meps. I'm not a big night sight fan anyway. (That's a whole other debate!)

Someone did point me to a link on the Walther America sight for a HiViz fiber optic front sight. They aren't listed on the HiViz company site -- didn't even know they were available. I have them on my Sig and Ruger and I love 'em to death!

I just finished watching Die Another Day for inspiration....Halle Berry is all over me!

Ya, Earl's is high. What I liked about those though, was they were tapered. Just fits the slide. I find I have faster sight reacquisition with this P99 that any other pistol I have shot and I attribute the tapering of the slide and sights to some of that.

I have the Sig P220 EL with the fiber optic front sight. It's great in sun light, but if your shooting in an indoor range you may be a little disappointed in the fiber optic... Havent looked for the P99, but True Glow  makes a combo fiber optic powered with Tritium... Best of both worlds....

Check out ebay under Walther P99, I've seen some fiber optics on sale there fairly often. I've not compared the price of them. But then, I'm pretty happy with my P99 stock sights...

That's interesting...one of the things I like the best about my HiViz sights is how well they maintain their performance under all kinds of lighting conditions. I've used them indoors, outdoors and at dusk (for a night shoot). Even when the target was only lit by my Surefire, the performance of the HiViz beat the performance of the Trijicons on my Glock.

Just goes to show why they make so many different products...everybody is different!

Could be. My Sig P228 was the GOTM last April. It came with the HiViz sight standard. I have the .09" diameter pipe installed and it's extremely easy to see. I've attached a pic -- it's pretty poor but you can get an idea of how bright it is (considering the barrel is against the bed -- limiting the incoming light!)

I can sing their praises all day long...but they really do well for me. YMMV

Okay...I'll get up on my night sight soap box and someone can come and knock me off.

I have not seen any brand of night sights that gives what I consider adequate performance in daylight or dusk conditions. In total darkness I agree -- you can't beat night sights. But in reality....how often are you going to shoot at a target in total darkness? I have a hard time imaging any scenario where I'm going to open up on someone or something without being able to see it to identify it. Even if I light it up with a SureFire, my experience has been that the advantage of a tritium sight goes away.

That's why I like my HiViz sights so much. In the worst situation (flashlight in the dark) they're no worse than the best standard sights available -- and better than the day time performance of any night sight I've seen. In any kind of light condition (even dusk), that lite pipe simply glows and is brighter than any tritium sight in that kind of light. So to me, it's a win-win.

I know plenty of people swear that you need night sights for any kind of self-defense scenario. If that's what they feel is necessary, I hope that if they ever have to use the weapon, that it works for them. Personally, I'd prefer to have a HiViz and a positive ID on my target.

The sermon has ended. Go in peace!

Navy87Guy, I tend to Agree with you. Night sights are cool, but if you can’t see your target, then how would you know what you are shooting at? I like the idea of Hi Vis sights, but they look fragile and like they would snag real easy. Never having used them, I’m sure not talking from experience here…

Being a rather simple person, and wanting to stay independent of batteries, I don't care for lasers… I had one of those once, and you simply could not see the dot outside during the daytime… Totally useless to me… Kind of the same with a flashlight, I don’t want it attached to my firearm…

I’m so boring! Just give me my Sig or my Walther, plain Jane, and I’ll take on the Predator!

Glad I can amuse you.

Actually, I bought my new Beretta to be my nightstand gun, and I added a flashlight to it on purpose. I was tired of swopping clips in my Glock 26 every night - the small clip for carry, and a longer clip with a flashlight attachment on the mag for night time. I would rather have the light on the gun in case I needed it one night.

Now, I wouldn't have one on my CCW gun. Although, I suppose if I was a cop, I might keep one attached on my belt. Then if the need ever arose where you preferred to have two hands on the gun instead of one (and carrying a flashlight in the other) you would have that option.

I did the laser thing years ago, but I think I am over that now. I kinda would like the laser grips, but I ain't spending that much money. And, I'm a good enough shot w/o it - plus with the flashlight, I don't really need a laser :p

Well just to make things harder for you, Hal, the Walther HiViz sight is overmolded, so the Lite Pipe is encased to protect it. I didn't have any problem with snagging when I used my Sig for my defensive handgun course -- although I haven't tried it for daily carry. And if you do break one, a replacement is 99 cents.

Here's a link to the one for the P99 on the Walther America site: http://www.waltheramerica.com/Shoppin....tgr=ALL

I'm with you guys on lasers...cool toys but not worth the money and not really necessary (IMHO). I'd rather spend the money on extra practice ammunition to get good at hitting what I am at.

I don't have a light attached to any of my guns (although now that I have a P99 with a rail, that's an option!) but I do have a TacStar light (looks just like a SureFire) that I have at hand to light up the target in a home defense situation. It's small enough to throw in my pocket when I'm carrying at night, too.

That is wierd... I never made the word "new" into red text when I posted that... Damn gremlins are on this site

I used to have mini-mag light w/ pressure switch set up on a winchester shotgun with folding stock. That was back in my "mod the hell out of the waepon" phase I had in my 20's. I just sold the thing 2 weeks ago because it was just sitting on the wall...

Man, I like that Navy87Guy! Do you just stipulate the height you want? I've never seen that one before... Dang! you might have converted me... Price is right too!

ShipWreck, it's not red on my puter

I use a surefire flashlight, separate from my handgun... I understand both schools of thought... Just prefer them being separate...
