This photo of a P99 came from the Earl's Repair Service website.

The mag release is much shorter than he one that is on my new P99, which was imported by Smith and Wesson. Is this one pictured on Earl's site merely an older version, or are there differences between Earl's imports and Smith's?

Thanks yet again.

That mag release was used up till the end of 2004.....
the 2004 P99 run is the only one with the short mag release and the open rail.....
all models before 2004 have the same mag release (short) but the closed rail...

so yes it's just a older version of your new P99

Yes, my compact has the shorter one. My fullsize has the longer one.

Mos people like the shorter one for visual aspects. But after using the longer one a while, it is much more convenient.

I would agree. All my 99's have the short mag release...they look good and they all match each other...but I have fondled the newer versions with long release and it is much easier to manipulate...and I noticed that the New PPS also sports the long mag release....

So I ordered a new walther p99c this week, will it have the short or long release?

Unless your dealer has a stock of older models laying around somewhere I would say yours will have the long release.

Well that sounds like a good thing (having the long release) although out of all the pictures I've looked at on the web, I have yet to see a p99c with a long release. Anyone have one?
