Here is my first P88, a recently acquired Compact.

It’s seen some ise, but not battered. Tge barrel is shiny but the lands and fields are not so pronounced, not sure whether it’s like that from use or by design.

Can’t wait to shoot it!!

Congratulations! My P-88C is the most accurate pistol I own. Mine can also be a little finicky with the bullets. If seated very long or having a wde ogive, the bullets will hit the pronounced leade of the rifling and prevent the slide from closing. I get best feeding with minimal-ogive bullets like TCs or spire points. I think this was only a problem with some P-88Cs; yours might be fine.

Nice buy, one of my favorite Walthers. I have owned two, currently one, and both have run 100% with a variety of ammo.

Loose rear sight on my P88C

So last Sunday I went to test shoot my newly acquired P88C.
I am happy to say that it shot beautifully, and I could easily start seeing tiny groups forming at 15 meters, despite shooting it the first time.
Also very happy that all my hand loaded 124gr and even 140gr ammunition cycled, chambered and shot beautifully.
However, I encountered one snag...the rear sight is loose!
The first shots were high to the left. I found that the rear sight was way to the left.
I tapped it gently to the right and started improving, but it was not steady throughout my shooting, as you can see from the pictures of the targets (1-2-3-4 represent the order I was shooting). The rear sight must have got knocked during trapsort as the gun was off target immediately, my bad for not checking at once.
What would you recommend? I was considering a centre punch to lock the sight in position, or superglue (yuk!) or perhaps loctite. Of course, after shooting from a steady rest.

It sounds like you're on the right track. I've used Loctite 680 for slip fit applications liked dovetailed sights with success. If you still find it to be loose you can use a center punch to raise some dimples on the bottom of the sight. I would try that before staking the frame.

Congratulations on the pistol ! The P88 is one of the last modern Walthers to have evaded me.

Nice P88C Malteser.

One of the guns on my list for 2019.
They appear to be very much in demand. The standard size is a wonderful pistol, and then there is the sports or target model. Wow!! And there is also a .22 conversion kit for it...

So, if you plan to touch a P88, watch out for your bank account, heheheh!!!

All the best foor 2019

Just a FYI, the compact version looks like the full size, but the internals are different and more simple. The full-size P88 has a more finicky reputation, while the compact is a solid design. If you want a high-end P88 Champion package, such as malteser2710 describes, then here you go.:)
