Hi all,
Didn't visit the site for a while - family, holydays, work and so on - and I'm happy to see some following on my post about problems with P5.
These last weeks, I had the opportunity to test and compare my P5 (1981) with a "Beretta 92 FS Compact L" (1996) - I'm quite fond of the Walther locking block system used on both.
First of all, the Beretta is longer (198 mm vs 180), heavier (900 g. vs 780) and wider (38 mm vs 34). Height is similar (134 mm) and the barrel is longer (109 mm vs 90) - Oh yes, I'm one of these maniacs who measure their guns!
Ergonomy of the Walther is much superior for me: it feels lower on the hand, the multi-function lever is a gift, sights are larger and easier to catch with the "i" pattern. The trigger travel is shorter in DA and the reset to SA shorter too.
All these qualities translate in faster fire at short and middle ranges (to 15 m.). Accuracy is on pair. At wider distances,(25 m. and 50 m.), the Beretta Compact has a slight advantage with his longer sight radius (hell, I didn't measure it!)
A few more things: if the finish is on pair externally, the P5 is perfect internally where the 92 has some deep marks, just like the machinist hadn't regulated his lathe. Very surprising as Beretta claims using the most modern CCM tools! My P5 is not perfect either: it still FTFs frequently when I close the slide with the multi-function lever. And the serrated trigger is a real pain on long sessions. I plan to polish it.
Hope it might interest you.
Bye
