Has anyone ever had the hammer ground down to reduce the frequency with which this happens?

Essentially, what is happening is the slide fails to cycle becuase it gets caught up on the hammer when it cycles.

It is not that big of a deal, mostly a minor annoyance as I have to release the slide manually, but it just shouldn't happen.

I have read that you can have the hammer ground down a little so that it no longer catches the slide while cycling. Has anyone ever had this done?

My p22 is at Smith and Wesson right now for that issue, and a "walking safety".

I couldn't believe it, after 2000 rounds, my P22 begins to have a walking safety problem, ugh.  I also asked them to diagnose and fix my "failure to feed" problem that results from the hammer and safety roll bar getting caught on each other upon slide cycling.  I hope they'll round it off for me!

My P22 is back in my posession after 1 week exactly.

Hats off to S&W customer service who read my "problems" letter and addressed each problem I was having in their fix.  Heck, they even threw in an extra magazine for my troubles!

It is customer service like this that wins customers and repeat business.  If only ALL companies in the firearms industry had the same outlook on customer service, we'd all be sitting pretty.

S&W has won my future business for my next revolver, they're great!!!  Now to the range to make sure all those fixes worked

Within 500 rounds of purchasing my p22 my hammer started hanging up and I then noticed that the hammer was cracked at the base, almost hidden by the frame. I sent it to S&W and they had it back within 5 days and paid for the shipping both ways. It has worked fine ever since and I am a customer for life because of their customer service. I also have a P99 and planning to get a compact P99 or SW99 just because of S&W service and product.

Yes, I ground my Hammer down and everything else I could do to get it to shoot, eject, and feed properly. At first I tried to send it back, they didn't fix it. I sent it back later and they still did not fix it. I have to pay shipping both times. Thier service gets a BIG thumbs down from me.
This was a long time ago. ( first year p22 came out) But I managed to fix the problems myself with a little dremel work, lock-tite and various other tools.
