I know this is a judgement call, but if I wanted to obtain a Walther P1 with its more desirable revisions, such as the hex bolt added to extend the service life of the frame beginning in June 1975, more importantly making the slide sidewalls thicker in the late 1960s, and the improved sights (don't know date), what is the approximate date when all these revisions were in place?

In other words, if I wanted a P1 that included its major revisions, I should try to get one produced after what date, bearing in mind that I am told production dates for the pistol as a whole are not always easy to determine?

I think it comes down to what is available to you at the price you are willing to pay, more than a selection by date. Some went through refitting and a few seem to have missed it. I would think that a former BW or refit post-76 pistol would have much of it. I don't see many here so I would wait until I found the one that had the fittings I want.

I would tend to think like Mike.
The later the pistol, the better chance of getting everything you want.
Keep an eye peeled for the latest possible date and be ready to start dealing.
