I was at the gun store the other day and got to fondle the new SW99 compact and .45. The compact, even tho its ugly, actually felt really good in my hand. The grip of it felt just as good as my P99. The .45 on the other hand felt really bad. The palm swell has been moved downward so that it doesn't even fit in my palm, but at the meaty end of the bottom of my hand. I had a friend who shot the .45 SW99 say that he really liked it. This from a guy who is a 1911 guy.

I'd still like to see the P99 in both of these configs.

Got my first look at the SW99 Compact in .40 at the store today (Galyans $429). In the store I'm mentally comparing it to my 9mm P99 and Glock 26. The grip was only vaguely similiar to the P99 and it was a bit shorter in my palm than the 26. With the P99 I reach for the mag release with my thumb and middle finger and on the compact they felt smaller and closer. The mag would not drop free, perhaps it was full of factory grease. Then the trigger - ugh! Even brand new the P99 was never that gritty! I know they are supposed to get smoother with work but first impressions are important. I'll keep looking but I'm not as hopeful anymore.
