Nickel PPKs?

I’ve Seen a nickel plated PPKs for sale recently. Early 1970’s E. German Interarms, etc. Nice plating looks very professional ... except the front and rear sighting paint marks are nickeled over? Did Walther offer factory nickel plated pistols? Never saw one before. Just wondering.

First things first. You meant WEST German Interarms, correct? No firearms could ever have been legally imported from E. Germany. If the sight inserts are nickled the pistol is refinished. Manurhin produced some PPK/s pistols finished in Nivel (satin nickel) but Walther did not. I understand Interarms refinished some imports in nickel but don't know anything more; but I'll bet the Interarms pistols had the sights marked.
nickeled ppk

Yes, my mistake in typing. Standard West German fare. And yes the sights seem to be nickeled over. I agree that it had to be a refi job, sold as factory. Sad if true. Just Sold for $683.

Addendum:
But if Interarms refinished it, sights covered or not, and sold it as new then it would be considered factory I suppose.
This .22 cal is a Nivel finish and is so marked on the box. They are hard to find.

Is the coloring in the sights simply lost? Handsome piece in any case.

Clem , The pistoles that are finished that way have a hard time keeping their dots if shot much . The finish is so slick paint just doesn't grip it very well ,and throw heat in the mix from firing it ,and boink " thar she blows" . I have had it pop out at the range before . Nail polish lacquer works pretty good as a replacement . Ayb
addendum Finish looks legit to me .
