Hello All,

I’m new to the forum and recently acquired my first P5 handgun. This makes for my third Walther, I also have a P1 and a P99. I was hoping someone could help determine if this was a police trade-in or a commercial Walther? The only proof marks I can find on it are the eagle over N, “ID,” and the antler proof. The serial number starts with 036. Any info or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Hans

If it says ID on it, the gun was made in 1983.

If it doesn't have any marks like [BMI], [NdS], ( · ), crossed out coats of arms or any other abbreviations or symbols stamped on it anywhere, it was sold commercially.

My P5 I picked up last year has a tiny coat of arms sideways on the right hand slide with an M under it. Or maybe a Z. Coat looks like an eagle of some sort, probably Federal Republic of Germany. Nitro proof?

Probably a standard nitro proof, but only photos will let others evaluate for you.
