In case you thought our esteemed member cares only about Walthers, there's a new book available titled "Die Faustfeuerwaffen der bewaffneten Organe der SBZ / DDR" (handguns of the Armed Forces and Agencies of East Germany).

You know, in case anybody but me cares ;)

Highly recommended, even if you can't read German the pics are great and many of us can translate the critical parts if you ask.
The original German edition was published in 2001 with the English edition following in 2003. It's a good book to add to your library if you like German pistols. I'm pretty sure that it's out of print now.

Here's a source for it in English :

Yeah, I didn't realize it was an old book. DWJ sent me an ad and I thought it was new.
On the subject of Dieter's books, has anybody here compared the content of the first edition of his Walther book with the recent second edition? I dropped significant money on the (out of print) original a couple of years, shortly before the second edition came out, and I haven't seen if there were substantial changes that might justify buying the newer version.

Couldn't say, I've got the fourth German edition. Anything in particular you would like me to check?

The current English version is actually the third edition published in 2016. If you're still using the first edition you'll definitely want to upgrade. The third edition is 264 pages and full color. It has added some of the newer Walther pistols like the P22, PK380, PPS, and PPX. The only difference in text that I have noticed between the second and third editions is that in the third he deleted the index. But I haven't sat down and gone through them side by side so there may be others.

You can get it here for only $50 :

Fair price. I paid €42.61 incl shipping from Germany to Texas for my German edition.
Once had a really nice East German Mak. It was another pistol I foolishly traded to scratch a new itch.
Meh. My East German Mak kept breaking parts, I kept replacing parts until the slide cracked and then I gave up on it.
Mine was build like a tank and did not appear to have a high round count; thought it was equal in quality to my Ulm PP. Finding East German Mak mags was next to impossible.
