My Beretta M9A4 is inexcusably awful

Oh you bet your bottom dollar they’d be getting that back from me, if I just dropped $1k+ on it!!! I wouldn’t accept that from any reputable manufacturer. I have heard horror stories of BerettaUSA just tanking. Even their shotguns!!

Impressions from chips in fixture is a good theory, I also suspect improper clearing of the chips in the machining part of it (ie: they call it “recutting the chips”). Sometimes they get embedded back into the surface of the part, or “welded” back on, and this leads to malarkey like what you posted, OP. UberAlles, you said someone told you to fire it until it stopped kicking out metal shavings??? This a silly bit of humor, or were they high as a kite?? I’d have handed it right back to them and demanded a refund or effected repair. Trade that puppy in on something better, IMHO.

That Jericho looks really nice!!! Or do they even call it that anymore?? You mentioned baby dessert eagle. That BUL Israel also makes a 1911 that I think is pretty kickin’!!

They forge their slides: most combat handguns are rough in these areas.
I have rifles with forged actions, and yes while there are rough edges in some inconspicuous spots.. I have NEVER seen ANYTHING like THAT before on a finish machined product!!! And if I have, it is headed for reclaim or recycle bin! I know tooling is a cost, I also know manpower is a cost…. But for what they are charging for these things, they got the money to spare and catch something like this in QC.

Did they hustle all the equipment there like overnight and not properly calibrate everything?? Just drop the equipment off and start making chips?? I mean this is just shoddy. I wish I knew what happened.

Might still give them a chance and look at that PX4.

My cousin has a PX4 in 40, and since 40 is snappy hot stuff, it never failed. Ever. Still hasn’t failed, and he puts a box of shells a month through his to keep in practice.

I think 45 would be powerful enough to guarantee cycling the action. So you’re telling me Beretta is like Ford, in that if you buy one of their products, and even if you have a warranty or service agreement, you’re a their mercy to get it fixed up.

I would keep it. I shoot my guns, and I am not a machinist all I care is that they go bang everytime. The parts are space aged polymer coated steel and they save weight and reduce friction. The perception of cheapness is merely science that appears to be magic..
I respect your points. I really do. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I firmly believe that.

I happen to (obviously) be of the other school of thought. I do agree that it should go “BANG” every time, but should also look good to me while doing it. Plus, the polymer coated steel should be a sin. Can’t get it out of wood and metal….. big bag of nope. :p

Girsan has hit the market lately in force!!! All the reviews I have read about those Turkish clones has been on the up and up. But I also wonder if the alloy they are using for the slides in the Beretta’s is different and causing these issues with the machining.
