There's an article on the P22 and P99 in the Sept/Oct issue of American Handgunner. And in it, the author states that he had problems getting the 3" version to work at all and the 5" version would have many FTF's, hammer not locking back, etc. He then call S&W and said it was a mainspring problem. After swapping that out, the author said "no more problems".

Never had this problem on mine.

Also, I'm browsing various forums about this gun and never heard of it. Probably only a very bad luck for the reporter.
