I told members I would be testing some semi-auto lubes trying to find the perfect one........

Well to date, the "Wilson - Ultima Lube" seems to be better than the Graphite base "Gunslick" that I have been using.

Everyone knows Wilson Combat.........they make some of the best [ and most expensive ] custom .45 acp pistols around.
Their custom lube that they use for their factory guns has gotten good reviews in some of the gun "Rags". Hard to tell how much that praise is advertising dollars talking.

So I tested the Ultima - Lube grease and here are my thoughts. The grease comes in a syringe type dispenser and that is very convenient in applying this grease exactly where you want it --  inside of rail systems  etc.

The grease is very sticky .......and therefore stays put when applied. The grease held up well under the pressure of a .45 acp firing at a fast rate of fire. The gun I was using did not have particularly tight rails....so it stood to benefit from a grease that was able to stay put inside the rail system under heavy firing.

When I took the weapon apart.......... the stainless steel slide was still warm.....but the gease remained neatly inside the rail's grooves. This is a great improvement over the gunslick I was using, as that stuff tended to "run" a little as it was heated up. The Ultima-Lube was still pliable enough to wipe off the rail system easily..........so it did not give any appearence of gumming up under heat or use.

So for now I am going to switch over to this grease type lubrication for my Walther P-99.  A little goes a long way .......so the small $6 tube should last me about a year.

Ok guys..........If you want to go high-tech and buy the best here it is..........

"TW25B" by Mil-Comm [ Do a google for "Mil-comm products" }

This lube grease is used by the USA Military for all their extreme weather firearms.

Check out the operating temp. of this lube ......... -90 F to over +450 degrees F.

I am using this lube on my AR15 - presently.........but see no reason why it can't be used on semi-auto pistols. It costs about twice what the Wilson Ultima-Lube will run you..........somewhere around $14 a small tube [syringe ].

If you shoot a lot............ I would stick with the more economical Wilson Product.

There is one more Lube I am waiting to get.....it looks like "copper grease"............like the stuff used by Glock at the factory [ if I haven't gotten Manuf. mixed up? }

If you shoot a lot shouldn't you use the best lube you can get? How many P99s can you lube with that $14 syringe you think? Perhaps you can use that high end lube on the slide rails and 'regular' lube elsewhere?

So far I haven't really seen any expensive lubes here. When we're talking relubing telescope mounts someone mentioned crytox or something like that which costs about $100 for a small container. It makes a $1400 mount freeze-proof though. Luckily a $4 tube of lube gel from Radio Shack works very well too

I understand your skepticism about the lubes and grease……..but the high tech TW25B is the real deal. It has been tested by the military in all kinds of situations from the Arctic to the desert and it performs as advertised.

Also firearm’s grease needs to be more than just something that is slippery ……….. these lubes have to stay put where they are applied, many times without any containment structure…….and the most IMPORTANT feature is that they break down carbon deposits on contact. On many weapon systems, carbon fouling can halt a weapon in its tracks. The TW25B when applied in a thin layer to your barrel will actually retard the formation of copper deposits as well as carbon deposits, on the lands and grooves. It also will make for easier cleaning, when the carbon deposits are broken down as you are using the weapon.

Cost is certainly a relative element…………. What is affordable to some…may be cost prohibitive to others. I would rather see people spend more of their hard earned money on practice ammo…….than on lubes. But that’s why I am trying to give everyone some choices………..so they can buy the best that they can afford.

I like to use the TW25B in my AR15 barrel to minimize copper fouling……..it is not much of a hassle cleaning up a pistol barrel that I can drop into a small tub containing a copper solvent…but the rifle barrel becomes more of a problem.

Lubrication in a semi-auto weapon, both pistol and rifle, is very important …….so if your weapon is used to protect your life ……. Please choose Wisely !

I just searched for the TW25B stuff on Google - is this what you are talking about?

http://www.mil-comm.com/weapons_lubricants.html

That's a lot cheaper than $14/syringe, and that's direct from the manuf...Hence that's why I'm asking if it's the right stuff or not.  I'd gladly pay $8 for something that's the best (but then I'd gladly have paid the $14 too).

Phobos --  Yes that's the right stuff -smile-  apparently my supplier is making quite a profit !

Uncut --  can't say if the stuff you are using is the same ,but if you check the label it should mention Mil-comm somewhere as the manufacturer ? The trade marked name is TW25B....so people can make money off of look a likes by not using the correct trade mark name. Kleenbore may be one of their civilian distributors ? ........so you need to do some investigation to know for sure.

Here is a place that has reasonable prices and that I have used before........ his price $7.50 a tube + shipping
