but is there a conversion barrel in 9 mm for .40 S&W P99? I know about the Bar-Sto .357sig conversion barrel, but 9 mm is much cheaper for practice.

They do have 9mm conversion barrel for P99 in .40. I'ts $200+s&h and there is one on it's way!

The barrel is here, I put 250 rounds trough it without any problems. Shoots more acurate than the .40 thou.
