It looks to me like part of the blue plastic is missing but then again, there is no evidence that anything snapped off - both sides are identically cut. Weird. This is out of a brand new, unfired P99 9mm. Before I take it to the range I need to know. Thanks.

You are correct - it's defective. The blue portion should form a complete circle.

Suggest you contact S&W Monday morning, and they should take care of you right away.

Took the broken recoil spring assembly back to the store where I bought the gun yesterday. They replaced with a new part and all is well. It's a rare thing to find they said but when it comes to "stuff happens" I reign supreme. 'Took her out to the range later in the PM and flawless after 200 rounds of 124 Lawman and Magtech ammo. 'Very pleased!
