I have a blue PPK/S.
It's rollmarked Walther USA LLC, Springfield MA.
I'm curious as to whether it's a Smith or a Ranger made gun.
I suspect it's from that mythical transition period when Interarms went defunct and Smith took over, but I'm not sure!!!
Anybody know who possibly made my pistol??

from your description, the pistol sounds like one that was produced during the transition period.

I would consider it Interarms if it has the short "tail"

also to me after looking it all over again.......
This is PPK/S is from the Interarms area..... short tail and the markings on the slide are for sure from Interarms......
look at other S&W PPK/S and see if you can see the difference of the markings on the left side of the slide.....
